Ebay unpaid item

Hi everyone, i am really new to this and have a question about ebay and the new feedback system.

I sold an item on the 13th of April and the buyer was to send a cheque. About a week after the end of auction I asked him to let me know when he was going to send payment as i was going away for the next two days but told him when i would be back, in case he was in a rush for the item. A week after he said he had been ill (which i understand) but payment is on its way. I took that to mean he had posted it...so i gave royal mail the benefit of doubt and 5 days later it still hadn't arrived so i emailed the buyer again to say i had never received it in case he was wondering why the item had not been sent out. He said he wasn't worried as i said i was away which i thought was bizarre as i was only away for two days and that was a long time ago by now. But he said he was worried as he never put a payee on the cheque??!! i didn't ask him not put a payee so i dont know why he did this. He said he would keep me updated. A week later still hadn't heard anything from him so i asked him for an update...and i said that i would have to claim for an unpaid item on the 24th if i hadn't received payment but that i could clear it when payment arrives.. still no update or communication.

How does the new feedback system work? I am not too familiar but i gather sellers cant leave negatives now? If this is so payment doesn't arrive how do i let others know of this? I need to give him til tomorrow before i file an unpaid item and then i will try contact him by phone if he does not respond to item dispute.

Any advice appreciated

TIA x x

Personally I would open a NPB dispute now. The buyer has been giving you the run around & has no intention of paying.

If he does not respond to the NPB then he cannot leave you feedback. ALthough you cannot leave negative feedback now you can ensure he receives a non paying strike.

I agree, forget feedback at th emoment and put in a NPB claim immediately. Keep that claim open until such time you either get payment or can close it (after 8 days) and give the buyer a strike. Be careful though not to open a mutual dispute, go for the full one.

Whatever you do the buyer can leave feedback, but a strike means the buyer is one step closer to being suspended and then he won't be able to bother other sellers.

  • I have put in an unpaid item dispute yestserday as per advice, saying payment has never been received but no word from buyer as yet....What happens if he doesn't respond? After 8 days i can close the dispute right? Then what happens? As far as i am aware other buyers cannot see unpaid item disputes so how would i let others know of my experience with this seller if feedback cant be left?

Who's a guessing, he's going to announce that although you haven't received it the cheque has been cashed! He sounds like he hasnt sent the cheque and isn't going to and is just using time up, yo me it does anyway.

There is no longer any way of warning other sellers about this buyer so forget feedback and concentrate on the strike. Enought strikes in a short period coupled with previous history and complaints all count towards a buyer getting suspended, so a strike is quite important.

You are correct BTW if the buyer does not respond to the dispute then after 8 days you can close it and the buyer cannot leave any feedback. if he does respond then you can close the dispute but the buyer can still leave you feedback.

So? He’ll still get a NPB strike.

Nor do I. You haven’t said what the problem is. Can we assume a seller has started non-paying-bidder claim against you?

I agree with Alfie and can't see what you believe should be a problem?
