ABBEY Direct ISA
Comments

I have finally recieved a response to my complaint as described in earlier posts
£35 compensation and all interest will be backdated to the date of opening of the account - at least they have gone some way to redeeming themselves!

I'd seriously appreciate a response to this question. Like so many others my experience of trying to open an Abbey Direct ISA and transfer in my existing ISA savings has been a disaster. So much so I just want to call a halt to the whole thing. I've actually got as far as opening the account with Abbey (took nearly three months) but I haven't deposited any money with them ie I haven't used my 08-09 allowance and I haven't transferred my previous years savings (their incompetance not mine). So my question is this - can I deposit my 08-09 ISA allowance with my existing provider even though I've actually opened an account with Abbey or am I now stuck with them?0

Your experience with Abbey sounds exactly the same as mine. They're worse than useless. Chocolate teapots spring to mind. I opened cash-ISA account middle of April, transfer in is still not complete almost 3 months later, and their helpless desk has lived up to its name. Not sure why it takes between 3 and 7 transfers between departments to tell me if my account is open or if they've sent the transfer form to my previous supplier. At least I haven't used their 0845 number and paid them for the priveledge.
If you haven't deposited any money in this tax year, you can put it in your existing ISA (assuming it's still there), or even open another cash-ISA with another supplier, which is what I've done.
Hope that helps....
