it doesnt work like that ,you put your card in /pin etc and the machine tells you a limit usually £100 ,you take what fuel you need then your card is debited for that amount , i use it and its so much quicker.the spikes are not a new thing one garage here already has them in place ,there are clear signs and red/green light system in place so really theres no excuse for "forgetting" to pay. this particular garage has reduced its non payment to zero. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Do they propose to put these front and rear., you could simply reverse out. quote]
they are at both the entrance and the exit , unless you are looking for them you cant really see them as they are embedded in the ground. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
I totally agree with everything that has been said by all against such measures.
It's ludirous and potentially dangerous to both any driver, the public and the cost to the petrol station could be tremendous if, and it would happen, it was mistakenly used.
If it is such a major problem then there must be a more sensible approach to this, but for the life of me I can't think of one at the moment.
Just please don't let us get any closer to the American way of doing things or we'll have armed guards on the pumps next, "go on punk, make my day";)I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -
There is one at a garage in Bradford, they've had it for at least a year.
My alternative is much better though.
Connect the garage to the ANPR database. If the car reg is flagged as having no tax, insurance or is listed as stolen, then no fuel is dispensed. Triple whammy and it pays for itself.0 -

Yeah, I'd go with something like that. Might also mean the police would attend a few more burglaries etc:rolleyes:  :rolleyes:I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

If used, isn't it Criminal Damage.
"Criminal Damage requires proof that the defendant intentionally damaged property belonging to another"
He stole from me so I damaged his vehicle. Good luck with that
The system includes traffic lights etc to warn the driver that if they pass the car may be damaged. So the driver would have to make a decision to drive over the spikes. IMHO it would be like a level crossing. It warns you not to pass over the railway tracks and if you do there is good chance you will be hit by a train.0 -
Not really, a level crossing is to prevent injury and accidents.
This if used is criminal damage, I can't see a court accepting that it was a prevention of a greater evil0 -

I suppose it depends on where in the US you are. When I lived in northern California in the nineties 90% of gas stations were pay first, then pump. Most had credit/debit card facilities at the pump (like in Tesco here), but you could pay cash if you wanted to. It was never a problem and eliminates drive-offs without damaging anyone's car by mistake. I really can't understand why we don't adopt it here.I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.0

That's only if it has card-operated pumps. The one place in the States where I had to pay first I had to go to the desk first and say how much gas I wanted. quote]
i have never seen a petrol station where you go to the cashier to pay 1st ,ive only ever used the card ones . maybe the answer is to go back to pump attendants ! i personally would hate that idea i like to be in and out quickly .This is a system account and does not represent a real person.
