Speeding fine?

dont sign the NIP
its a witness statement and cant be used unless you sign it (unless they have changed the law very recently)0 -
NIP = Notice of Impending Prosecution.0

The last time I looked at this there was an option to pay a fixed penalty (£60)and have 3 points on your licence if the offence was relatively minor.
For more than 20mph over the speed limit, the fixed penalty is not an option - the case comes to court and the penalty is decided there. If caught travelling at over 100mph an automatic ban is given.0 -
Someone I know wrote back and said that they shared the car with OH and nanny and could not remember who was driving on that date and could they have the photos. Photo did not reveal who was driving so they got away with it. You have got to have nerves of steel as the letters are quite intimidating.
you could always try and get off by arguing that the doppler equation being used is incorrect like my physics teacher did... he still got fined and points.0 -

Good advice if you want to get arrested on a court summons.
The fact is you got caught speeding. 55 in a 40. Why would anyone need speed camera warning signs? It's there in red and black a big circle with 40 in it. If everyone could just get off by not signing the form then that would make the law and enforcement pointless and everyone would race around doing their own thing and no one could do anything about it.
Speed cameras take a picture of you. these can be mobile or static. The picture documents your car and it's speed. A form is sent out asking for details of the driver. By default the registered keeper of the car is liable for the fine, unless he or she tells the police who the driver was, that's why the form is sent to the keeper.
Some mobile lazer type speed guns can capture your speed. You may not get a picture but will get given a NIP (notice of intended prosecution). Same rules apply.
Ignoring all of this will only mean the magistrates court will issue a summons for the keeper/drivers arrest.
The fine is usually £60 oand 3 points. Excessive speeds could land you in court with a higher fine and ban.
9 points already and you can't have 3 more, so you get summonsed for a ban.
Simple really. DON'T drive too fast.
No one likes getting caught. If you want to faff about trying to get off, and blaming someone else, or trying some physics in your defence, then by all means have a go, but remember the giolden rule. £60 and 3 pointsis the minimum! The more you !!!!!! about the higher end costs you are likely to payNO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!0 -

That seems a bit unlikely or else everybody in that position would be 'opting' for a two week ban instead of going to court and probably getting six months.
If you don't want the fine (& points) don't do the crime. Simple. :cool:If I hadn't seen such riches, I could live with being poor...0 -
I knew someone who got a 7 day ban. It does happen. The down side is you have to declare to yor insurance and prospective employers that you have been disqualified from driving. Not goodNO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!0

Not always.
I've been done twice for going over the "magic" 100mph, once for 104 and once for 100.3, the officer on the 100.3 was really annoyed that it came up as a 100mph plus as he was hoping to give me a fixed penalty notice. I assume the magistrates have some discretion as both times I pleaded (OK begged!) not to be banned so just got a few hundred quid in fines and five points for the first, six points for the second.0 -
I think the rule is correct, although some officers can be nice and let you off the rule. it's discretion, but one that would be best avoided I thinkNO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!0

You dont get stopped by police for speeding so the notice of intended prosecution can be your first intimation of being charged. it tends to be that if you have been speeding more than 10 percent above the limit that you will be prosecuted. less than that can sometimes be waived. In scotland the fine can be fairly high and depending on circumstances you can also lose licence. Almost certainly the minimum is 3 points and a fine. The camera or radar equipment is enough to provide sufficiency for prosecution. The equipment and the operator of the equipment provide the corroboration ie. 2 sources of evidence.0
