The hotels usually have fruit for breakfast, maybe you could slip some into your bag!!!!!0

Don't eat cheese and the meat sounds dodgy - bread and jam for lunches then? Perhaps we could sneak some food from breakfast out of the hotel for lunch :rotfl: .
The meat's not dodgy, it just shocks some kids to see it hanging in supermarkets, when we were there this girl started screaming - very strange.
Local plonk - sangria - cheap and strong! Just go easy, it goes down like fruit juiceNo longer using this account for new posts from 20130 -

Just read what I wrote and see it sounds wrongwhat I meant to say was "I don't eat cheese (can't) and I've seen the hanging meat" Hope I didn't sound sarcastic - I didn't mean too
!!
Have heard about sangria but never tried it .... will have to be careful me thinks :rotfl: :rotfl: Thanks for the advice really appreciated.

I been to Pineda a few times, stayed at Donaire Park which was half board so we thought we would hardly have to buy things. We added up once roughly how much we spent on bottled water:eek: , we also found beer and wine was cheaper than "pop" for the boys. We ended up dividing what we took by 7 and that was our budget for the day. The days we spent at the beach which didnt cost us anything, well the money we saved was put towards an excursion to the Port Aventura Park which was approx 80 to 90 pounds to get in!!! but so glad we went as boys thought it wonderful. Hope you enjoy, Pineda is beautiful, Salou the next town is like blackpool.DFW NERD....560

I would lift some fruit each morning to keep for lunch. Also I find it helpful to take crisps, chocolate, sweets etc with us. The kids will always be looking them and I always find they cost a lot more out in Spain so into the case they go.
Also this may seem like a really basic tip but I always find that pool bars/hotel shops are expensive. It can be costly to be buying glasses of coke, ice lollies etc. Walk out of the hotel to the nearest supermarket and buy at a fraction of the cost.
Regarding the money, I take what I think I will need and then bring a few hundred pounds sterling to fall back on should we need it.
Don't bring presents for people - these end up eating into your budget big time.
Oh and newspapers are a lot more expensive - find someone who buys one daily and borrow theirs. :rotfl:
Oh and I'm sure you already know this - don't forget the E111 cards.
Have a great holiday.0 -
Well only "2 more sleeps". Cases packed
- who says I'm not keen just got to finish cleaning the house  ! We have our money ready 750 euros (the boys have 140 euros each and dd has 20) - was chuffed cause I thought it was plenty but after reading another thread where someone found £1000  wasn't enough I feel a bit scared
. Just looking for a little genuine reassurance (or a reality check
) please someone reassure me!

Hi - we just got back from 10 days in vilanova which is just a little way down the coast from where you are going. Sorry to say that we spent £1100 - more than we were hoping. The euro is far stronger against the pound now and we found spain to be alot more expensive then the last time we went. Our £1100 included a trip to barcelona (worth it - the trains are regular and its a nice coastal route - the open top bus tour is expensive but good with kids and if you havent been before/arent likely to for a while and want to see everything in a day. Also, my best barcelona tip is to visit a restauraunt called le quinze nits - its on st marks square a left turn about half way down ramblas. I've been several times - its quite fancy but relaxed and very inexpensive. The best and cheapest meal we had whilst away! Google for directions - but get there a half 7, before opening as there are always long queues to get in.
Anyways, a trip to barcelona, a trip to the portaventura theme park and a trip to the port aventura waterpark. Portaventura is very expensive and adult ticket is 45 euros and childs 30 I think - so your talking 150 euro, plus train fare/spends (ie 9 euros for a burger meal!! exchange rate works that out at about £8!) so about 200 euros for a day out there. The water park is about 20 euro each so abit cheaper but still, its easy to see how it adds up!
That said, we had a lovely day out each time - short queues in the theme park. Its worth it to 'break up' the week.
Food and drinks we also found to be very expensive. We stayed on a campsite and the onsite restaurant and supermarket were expensive (and the food dire!) but it was a bus ride into the nearest town. tbh the food there was also expensive. It feels far more expensive then previous years due to the exchange rate - for example, a meal out, tapas and paella for 4 in the local town (nothing fancy, one soft drink each) cost us 70 euros. In previous years we would have equated that to about £40 - £45 but now it was almost pound for euro so felt very expensive.
We ate out 4 times, hardly drank (hubby had the odd beer but I'm pregnant), bought the odd icecream, floats for the pool etc and food from the supermarket each day and we spent £1100 in 10 days.
Be really careful with your cash and budget for the days out. Unfortunatley in the themeparks you're at there mercy and they can charge 9 euro a burger meal, unless you carry a rucksack round in the scorching heat.
Good luck - sorry to be a damp squib - I hope you manage on your budget. Just felt I had to post as I was genuinly shocked at the prices and how much was spent considering.MANAGED TO CLEAR A 3K OVERDRAFT IN ONE FRUGAL, SUPER CHARGED MONEY EARNING MONTH!:j
