I don't think you'll need lunches every day to be honest, breakfast is big and runs until about 10am sometimes later in most hotels.

I agree with that Gemmzie quite often when we have gone half board we find just a snack of crisps or something is enough as you tend to have a big breakkie.

It's true, but personally I'd rather have it in the budget and end up with money left over, than not have it in the budget and overspend.

Lunch is also a good occasion to sit down, have a natter, rest your feet if you're walking around or get out of the sun if you've been lying on the beach.
  • Thank you so much - so reassuring to see it broken down like that - I always fear I seriously underestimate how much things cost - not only did I stop aging at 29 :p - thats where I base my price too - lol - think things may have gone up since 1994 :rotfl: :rotfl: ! I figured lunch would be just snacking too - apparently there's a supermarket across from the hotel - so maybe stock up there for lunch on the beach (in the shade of course!). Really appreciate all the advice! Keep it coming!

Hi I've been onholiday with Ferris for the past 2 years and whereas the the journey by coach is quite long it can be enjoyable. Take your own food with you for the trip as it's quite costly at the service stations. I used to make up individual food bags for the kids. They sell cans of pop and hot drinks on the coach and they are reasonably priced. There are always lots of dvd's played to keep the kids occupied also.

I used to divide my money up into daily amounts and I knew my daily budget. With regards to the trips. I used the train line and I was a woman on her own with 2 kids and found it really easy, very cheap and efficient. I didn't actually go into Barcelona but I most certainly visited other resorts for the day. There are lots of pickpockets about (as with all holiday resorts) and if the kids are carrying their own money tell them to keep it well out of sight.

We've always gone half board, as Gemmzie pointed out, breakfast is served until late and that's when we had ours, lunch was usually a chicken kebab which was spicy chicken on a kebab stick with a cuff of bread on each end and these were really cheap and tasty. I'd always have our evening meal about 6.30-7.00 ann that used to see us through til the next morning.

The supermarkets are reasonably priced and I often shopped for snacks such as crisps, nuts and biscuits to keep in the room. Cold drinks are more difficult as its so hot. I had a cool bad which was big enough to hold a 2 litre bottle of pop and we used to share that whilst sitting by the pool each day. It's a lot cheaper than buying cold drinks from the bars.

When coming home from your holiday, buy lots of snacks in the spanish supermarket to eat on the return journey. Coming home seems a lot longer than going and the kids just constantly want to eat!!!!!

How long are you going for ? 13 days (10 days in resort)
How far are you from the beach? walking distance
Will you be eating out ( I know you are half board) But some people like a few meals out. no only in the hotel
Will you eat lunch as well as Breakfast? probably just something "snacky"
Do you drink in the evening? Yes but not big drinkers and happy to try the local "plonk"
Do you even dare i say it drink in the day? Only soft drinks I'm too old for daytime drinking now and fall asleep - lol! :o
Have you booked meals on the plane? Travelling by coach and will take food/drink for outgoing journey with us.
Let me know and I will give you my opinion

Thanks girlracer - we're going to Pineda with Ferris - did South of France a few years ago and know what you mean about the return journey - swore I'd never do it again :p :rotfl: but after two soggy summers we really need some sun! Thanks for the tips they're really helpful - we hope to use the local train and from what you've said it should be fine! Thanks.

No problem. I've been to Malgrat and Tossa de mar and I thoroughly enjoyed both holidays. Remember to take a warm jumper and socks for the nights on the bus, it's bleeding freezing!!!! More importantly have lots of fun.

Don't eat cheese and the meat sounds dodgy - bread and jam for lunches then? Perhaps we could sneak some food from breakfast out of the hotel for lunch :rotfl: .
