techstore.co.uk & city link rant!

Where to begin, I'm absolutely livid with both www.techstore.co.uk and City Link for a whole serious of issues
5 weeks ago I ordered a laptop bag from techstore, where the 'live stock check' told me there was 1 item in stock. Turns out the item wasn't actually in stock, and I was told it would be in stock in approx FOUR WEEKS time!
So I decide to wait, and then when I arrived home from work last Friday, there was a card through the door from City Link saying there was nobody home to sign for the package and to phone them to arrange redelivery. I did this straight away, and enquired whether they could redeliver to my work address. I was told I would have to ask the sender (techstore) to ask them in writing to do so. I told them this is what I would do, and that I would be in touch with them the next week, before the deadline by which items get returned to sender.
I emailed techstore over the weekend asking them to get City Link to resend to different address. Monday evening, get home from work to find another card from City Link through the door. I had at no point told them to attempt redelivery on Monday, as I knew there wouldn't be anyone in! Rang them straight away, as it said on the card they only try to deliver twice, then it gets sent back to sender. They said no no it was fine, they would still keep it until Friday. Tuesday I get a reply from techstore saying it will cost me £12 to get them to send it to another address!!! I wasn't about to pay that, considering I'd already paid £6.49 delivery charge and waited 5 weeks!
So I arranged with work to take Friday (tomorrow) off so I could stay in for the package, phoned CL on Wed to ask them to do this - no problem I was told. Then when I get home today from work, I check my emails and find one from techstore saying CL had contacted them and said I had requested a further delivery, and the third delivery is not free and will cost £7.90, so I need to phone them before 5.30 to pay - they only sent this email at 4 o clock, but I didn't get it until 8 when I got home.
I'm planning to ring City Link at 8 am tomorrow and give them hell, as tomorrow's delivery should only be the second attempt. I suspect the package will already be on its way back to techstore, though, in which case I can see major problems in ever getting it, without coughing up another delivery charge.
Sorry for the rant, I'm just so frustrated with the whole thing, and wish I had checked for reviews on techstore.co.uk before ordering - turns out they're unscrupulous at the best of times. Has anyone had any similar experiences, and success with resolving the situation without paying any extra?

My experience with Techstore has been very good. I ordered an item shown out of stock and was expecting to receive it in about a week. I was quite pleased to get an email with tracking number in 1 day telling me it has gone out. I received the item one day after that.
I had trouble installing it and their customer service person was very helpful. I will be using Techstore again.

I too recived an incorrect item, a dvd burner which didnt work (i requested a cd burner as it was only for a digital audio device) I started the small claims route but the recorded delivery item i sent to techstore to state my intention was returned four weeks later as 'not called for'........says it all...............
As I only spent £20 (plus p&p) I decided to chalk it to experience and walk away wiser.0 -
I won't touch techstore with a bargepole ever again. I tried to order something which showed as in stock but then stock ran out and they didn't even contact me to tell me there would be a delay. I finally chased it up and was told it would two weeks. No sign of it by three weeks so I emailed again, no response. Ended up ringing and was told there were severe stock delays so I asked to cancel and have a refund. It then took me four weeks to get a refund following two promises by them that they had actioned the refund (which never turned up) and multiple ignored emails. I ended up threatening them with legal action if they did not refund me within 48 hours as they were breaching the law under the Distance Selling Regulations (2000) which says a refund should be issued within 30 days of cancellation. The next day, a Paypal refund appeared (to my relief as I was thinking it would escalate to the next level) and they blamed an 'administrative error'. Given the catalogue of horrendous customer service up to that point, I find that a little hard to believe. I would not recommend them to anyone. I'm sure they're fine if an item is in stock but if you ever hit a problem or need a refund, you are probably in for a battle to get it resolved.0
