Not allowed to get money out of building society

Or go bankrupt? ;-p But then it would be someone else getting access.0

Sarahsaver, did you have any luck with the terms and conditions? I would suspect that in this case that you are going to be disappointed and you need to be careful what you sign up for in the future.
I have to say that I am pretty disappointed myself. You thank cattie for telling you that you might be able to plead hardship (and probably take a massive penalty to get your money) but I get no thanks for answering your original question ('can they do this?') and trying to get the extra information from you so that we can offer the correct advice. I'm not really worried about the 'click thanks' system, just a 'thanks, I'll look into the terms' reply would be fine. The answer might not be what you want to hear and even if you don't have the terms and conditions, you will look at them next time, won't you?0 -
i take it you are asking me to thank you!
Thanks!
All the posts are useful in a way but it would make a mockery of the system if i thanked every post I found useful.Member no.1 of the 'I'm not in a clique' group :rotfl:

Thanks;)Member no.1 of the 'I'm not in a clique' group :rotfl:

Sounds promising. NOW I feel like I have helped!0 -
Is interest creditted to the account? If so ask if you can have interest paid direct into your current account. That way you will at least be able to get some value from the account before it matures.
Do you have a rich great aunty who would be preapred to loan you some cash until the account matures with in return you giving her the interest?God save the King!

If everyone adopted the same attitude then everyone who replied to a post would get thanked. Anyway I will thank you for your message even though in my case it is thanks for nothing................................I have put my clock back....... Kcolc ym0 -
I did say I wasn't after a 'thanks click' but just a reply to my helpful posts. I dropped in four or five times to try and get the info to answer the OP's original query. I felt I went out of my way here and it just seemed that as the bearer of bad news (I had said 'unfortunately the banks CAN refuse withdrawals' ) my help wasn't appreciated. Anyway the OP took it okay and I was probably just having a bad day. Anyway, I'm not trying to stir anything up, so I'll leave it at that0

Would love to know the outcome of this? A few years ago Yorkshire Bank persuaded my elderly mother to sign up to move her money to a 'no access' type account. Luckily she told me about it within a couple of months and we went together to the branch and I explained in clear and unequivocal terms just what I thought of their lack of attention to detail in making sure my (then) 84 year old mother had FULLY understood the t&c's. I demanded immediate cancellation of the account, refund by counter cheque there and then and went and put it, with her, into an easy access CAT standard, high rate Coventry B Soc ISA. No probs. I didn't really expect them to argue. We need to take a stand about these tricks. If you genuinely did not understand the severity of the terms try telling them so. If they cannot provide proof that you did, I would hope they would take a position exhibiting integrity! Ha. What a hope. Still love to hear your outcome Sarahsaver?0

i work for a building soc, in our T&C's for fixed rate bonds we state that NO access will be granted to the bond during the specified term, however if you go into your branch or call the head office they usually have a little discretion, it basically depends on their history with you , the amount invested and when and also if you would want it all out, or part of it. :ALead me not into temptation, I can find the way myself.
wins - peroni bottle opener, peroni bowl, peroni coastersx2 and a vodkat cocktail kit,
would love to win something 'proper'!!0
