traffic into cardiff gets very congested when there are large events at the stadium. if you have other travel options available to you, such as coming by train, then they are worth considering. at the very least, park and ride could well be a shrewd consideration.

are you familiar with cardiff at all, or will you be using sat nav/road map to find your way round? (just so people know how detailed to be when suggesting locations)

Thank for the quick reply pavlovs_dog.

We do need to drive as we have 3 kid coming with us and we are picking up some friends from Heathrow on the way.

I am not familiar with Cardiff I was there a couple of years ago for another match. We managed to get parking at the back of a company who were renting out their spaces with all money going to a cancer charity. Unfortunately I dont know the name of the offices or the street. I just remember it was about a 5-10 minute walk from the main shopping street.

I will be using sat nav and if I dont get any specific recommendations I will use the park and ride.

    Thanks again

useful info on the millennium stadium website about park and ride, road closures etc, see HERE

im probably not the best authority on city centre parking - i can walk from my house to the stadium in under 20 mins, so always leave the car at home! i can tell you where to find parking, but couldnt help much with regards to cost.

there has been uproar over the NCP price hikes in the city centre, so i would say to avoid them. large parts of the city are charged by meter, if you can get a space for one of those then i think you're looking at around £4 to park all day. they fill up quickly though because they're cheap compared to the privately run car parks.

im sure if you PM one of the board guides for the travel section and ask them to move your thread to the wales board you will get a lot more help.

if you scroll down to the bottom of the main page for each forum, you will find list of who is guide for that bit. for the travel section its crabman and savvy

click through one of those links and you will be taken to the profile page. on there it will give you the option to send PM. for convenience, it will help if you copy and paste the hyperlink of the thread (the address at the top) into the message

    hope that helps

Hi codo, I've moved this over to the Wales Board for you :)

Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere(please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. If you have any questions about this policy please email abuse@moneysavingexpert.com.

If I need to drive to the stadium I usually park on one of the streets off Cathedral Road and simply walk along the Taff. It pretty well takes you straight there.

It might be a bit dark on the river when you return (edit: It was for the world cup matches I went to. Won't be for this one though.) but it's about a ten to fifteen minute walk along Cathedral Road itself and there are a few good pubs for refreshments too. I recommend the Cayo for a quick beer or lemonade.
