Floors 2 Go are a pretty well established company. I do wonder what the guarantee will cover. Being a natural material, oak will react to it's surroundings and change over time anyway. If it gets wet, well, it will suffer and with natural materials I'm sure they can use the fact that it is natural for an excuse for any bad behaviour on the wood's part :o

Have you asked for any kind of discount already? We haven't shopped there for years now but I remember H always asking for some form of discount and getting it - there were also some 10% discount vouchers knocking about at the homebuilding and renovating show which I noticed brought the price of their bamboo flooring in to be quite competitive.

Howdens however do a solid oak flooring which your carpenter should be able to pull in for about £25 a square metre (it's trade) and hopefully fit for about £500? We managed 60 square metres laid for £2200 IIRC but two of our tradespeople weren't able to match the price we got on it when they tried to buy it for their houses!

I would shop around. Personally I think they're expensive anyway, but that works out at £36 psm materials and £22 psm for fitting. It depends on the quality of the timber, but I still thasink tahts a bit dear.

Don't know if this helps at all but I was told by Floors 2 Go that they don't have their own fitters but they can provide details of fitters and I'd be looking at around £15 per sqm fitting charge.

Certainly some of their fitting is done by contractors, thats why thier expensive - they make an additional mark up on the fitting.

    Try Go Natural Wood.

They are based in Walsall but work nationwide. They have their own fitters.

    Cheapest I could find.
We took on Mr T and we won:D

Shame it had to end, will have to get free stuff from comps now

In February Floors 2go announced the closure of 13 stores - not yet all identified, to close with the loss of about 90 jobs due to poor trading conditions. Yet in December they had announced an expansion of a further 30 stores. Dont sound good to me.

  • Floors to go are very expensive. You should be able to pick up decent oak flooring for £25.00 a metre.I would fit it for £12/£15 a metre depending on the job so £1200 tops, probably less.
