electoral roll

hi,
i have had difficult time with ccards, so many declines. the reason might be the electoral roll. I am not registered there and not eligible to vote. Should i put a note in my file kept in experian and equifax. Will that be alright? I would say, "i live in the UK but not eligible to vote". or can someone write some good explanatory note for me to put in my file with credit agencies. thanks

Won't make any difference whatsoever. Just get yourself on the ER, problem solved.

Fwiw, I'm not on the ER and never have been but I don't have any problems getting credit. That said, I have a very long (and good) credit and address history.

If you're just starting out with bank accounts and credit etc, you really are wasting your time applying if you're not on the ER. Sorry, but it's fact.

I assume you're saying (despite your username!) you aren't a British, Commonwealth, Irish or European citizen.

In which case, AFAICS, you can't sign the registration form without committing a criminal offence.

When banks do a credit search i.e. online from their web site if you don’t appear on the Electoral register you will be declined. You may contact the bank and have this overturned though.

Not so, I am not on the register and have no trouble getting credit via online applications.

Then you must have existing credit? The application on the web server that does the search will recognise that you are established etc etc.

May I ask which credit cards you've applied for successfully, whilst not on the electoral roll?

Were you asked to post documents to verify your ID?

(This info' would be a great help to other MSEs, because we know that some lenders routinely reject applicants whose ID cannot be checked electronically.)

    yes, you can.

    Egg,Virgin,MBNA Plat,Amex,goldfish,citibank,AIB. Plus a couple that I have shut.

I have never sent proof of ID for any.

I have been in the property for 7 years but I am not eligible to vote.

No, I purchased the place in 1999 and it was rented out for a year, then I used it to date almost like a holiday home.

I can't tell you why it is easy to get credit, there is a mortgage, but very small (waiting for BS buy up and dividend) - Apart from ICESAVE I have never had to provide proof of address.

There is regular heavy use of credit cards that are always paid off, never any default. I'll look at the old copy of the credit report I have and let you know which CC was first.
