Help and advice please

Hi Everyone.

All help and advice is greatly appreciated......

I've been on a dmp for over two years, but I'm on a free paying one and hence looking to take over it myself. As of February 2008 my balances according to Churchwood (who my dmp is with) were:

Blair Oliver & Scott ( Sainsbury's) £5031.89
Blair Oliver & Scott (Intelligent Finance) £1661.28
Credit Solutions (Egg) £694.07
Security Investigations (Alliance & Leicester) £702.08
Wescot (Intelligent Finance) £1064.42

However, I've just checked my credit scores on Experian and Equifax and they both show the following credit agreements as outstanding and defaulted:

Sainsbury's £ 4,895.00
Halifax £ 1,577.00
IF £ 1,462.00
Egg £ 655.00

I'm waiting to get a list of current balances from my DMP manager (But from experience this takes a while), but I'm unsure why Alliance and Leicester is showing as settled on my credit score, when I am still paying this through my DMP. It was an overdraft so not sure if this is the reason, and coincidently I've put everything in motion with them to reclaim the overdraft charges. Should I still be paying this?

I can now afford to pay more each month, so any advice would be helpful on the way to go about this.

I'm sure you will probably need more information, which I am happy to provide.....

Many thanks

K.

Hi katy & welcome, thread is quiet tonight because of footy I think.
Please contact CCCS for some advice, they do DMPs without charging you fees!

  • Hi there,

None of my overdrafts ever appeared on my credit reports including my A&L overdraft.

I don't know a great deal about DMP's but have you contacted any of the free ones such as Payplan, CCCS or Citizens Advice Bureau. I'm sure they provinde the same & usually better service as the ones that charge you.

    Thanks guys.

I do agree it's quite because of the football.....my OH is downstairs watching it hence I can sot out my finances in peace :j

I did think about payplan and CCCS so will give them a buzz tomorrow. Just wasn't sure if my creditors would get upset for changing any arrangements.

From what I've heard the credit industry prefer payplan as they help fund it & they know that all the money you pay payplan goes directly to your creditors where the commercial dmp companies take a cut first.

I thought the CCCS was funded by the credit industry too. Off to check.

COPIED AND PASTED FROM THE CCCS WEBSITE

    Our Supporters

CCCS is funded and supported entirely by the credit industry. It is this totally unique mechanism that allows CCCS to provide its services totally free to consumers.
From it's original founders, primarily major lenders, CCCS now has the support of the credit industry and associated organisations. Over half of the people who contact CCCS are recommended to do so by their creditors. These are companies who take a responsible and sympathetic view when customers experience financial difficulties and work closely with CCCS to ensure a realistic, practical solution is achieved.
CCCS is able to provide its supporters with valuable research and management information that allows them to lend responsibly and help their customers use credit wisely. An additional benefit for supporters is the value CCCS can add to their profile, not only with the media, who regularly contact us for quotes and comment, but also government, where we work closely with consumer focus groups and consultation matters, which affect the credit industry. If you would like further information on supporting CCCS please contact us.

Why not request CCA and notice of Assignment from all the DCA ? You may find they can not come up with them . No true copy of a CCA no enforceable debt !

Yes CCCS is funded by the financial industry but they are independant - they act in YOUR best interest not the creditors. They are a charity and therefor cannot give favour to anyone or the charity commission would come down on them like a tonne of bricks!
Personally I think the banks etc fund them because then they can say they are being good banks etc and trying to help people in trouble after they have been the main cause of getting them in the mess in the first place... Hohum if it means places like CCCS are free to use for people who need them.

    Thanks everyone.

I've got a message from payplan to call them after I e-mailed them last night, so I'll see how I get on.

Good point about requesting a CCA. I'm pretty sure Churchwood wouldn't have done this, and as I had my head buried in the sand at the time, I didn't think to ask.

I'm also thinking about the PPI and credit card charges, but as I don't have any paperork anymore (again, head in the sand back then) I'm not sure hos to go about getting this information.

Thanks again everyone, it means a lot that there are other people out there.

    Hi

I would try CCCS, we have our DMP set up with them, they are really nice and you can check your balances and amend everything online so no waiting around, which frankly considering you are also paying these people to run your DMP, is shocking

You might want to check with your current company that there are no charges if you leave them behind though......

Oooh I didn't think about charges for leaving. I'm hoping that as I've been with them for nearly 3 years that I'll just have to give a months notice.

    I'll let you know.
