I was so chuffed earlier this evening but

now I'm as down as I ever was.
You see the local pub want waiting staff for the evenings .....so I give them a ring and they say come along for a chat. So off I go and I strongly suspect that I will get a job as they want someone 'mature and reliable'.
It's only minimum wage but I guess I'd get around £80 a week which means one of the credit cards can be paid off in about a months time, having raided the penny jar (which totalled £118) and cashing in a forgotten about savings account.
Anyway now hubby has put a downer on things telling me that I'm wasting my time and that I should value my time at more than £4 an hour (after tax) - he refuses to see that it would be at least worth trying it for a month or so (at least that way he could see the balances coming down and perhaps appreciate where I'm coming from)
I wouldn't mind so much but some of the comments he's come out with has really made me feel as worthy as a piece of dirt on his shoes but do I really deserve this when I'm trying to make things better, if only in a small way?

Oh hun, if you want to do it, then do it. They might only be paying you £4 an hour after tax, but at least they ARE paying you.
If he thinks you should value your time at more than £4 an hour, maybe you should tell him you also value your time enough to not want to spend it listening to him undermining your confidence!
I think it would be well worth doing if it gets a credit card paid off so quickly."I wasn't wrong, I just wasn't right enough.":smileyhea97800072589250 -
Do you know, my hubby said pretty much the same thing to me tonight -maybe there's something in the air?!.
I am working towards a professional qualification in Cardiology, but I am wanting more hours work to help pay off, shall we say, some 'debts', so I thought maybe home help etc. I got the same response as you did, so I'm putting it down to the fact that the football is on, his team maybe losing? Go for it and lots of luck, hope you get it.Opinions are like bottom holes, we all have one

I did wonder if it was a 'pride' thing and have bitten my tongue - especially as I don't know yet if I've got the job but I would have thought he could have appreciated the small guestures ..........to be honest it is something I should have done years ago and perhaps we wouldn't be in this mess now.2014 Target;

Just ignore him. If you end up enjoying the work and it helps make a dent in the debts then it'll be worth it. You could try it for just a few weeks and then see how you feel....
Good luck with whatever you decide!2022 wins include.... £1,000 cheque £150 ASDA gift card £250 Impericon gift voucher £100 cheque £100 of plant bulbs £100 Bower Collective voucher0 -

Speaking as a bloke I know there are some who feel insecure & undermined if their partner goes out to work & I suspect thats where he's coming from.
At the end of the day though it's your time to do with as you see fit & if you think it's best spent doing something positive towards reducing your debts then I say go for it.0 -

I work 2 nights a week in my local. I get £5 an hour (cash in hand sshhh). Also probably walk away with approx £10 per night for tips. I have a good time, chat to the local community, lots of gossip. Also if I don't have time to eat before i start my shift i get my tea cooked for me.
I don't really need the money as I do have a full time job, but I really enjoy it. I'd say go for it!!!Money, money, money, must be funny....in a rich mans world.

Do you know I think this often has something to do with it. I once managed to earn a reasonable sum of money (over £1000) for 30 hours work. Now for me to do this my OH had to put himself out a tiny bit to cover the kids (basically collect the younger one from the childminder couple of hours early for me).
Well you would have thought I'd asked him to move a mountain - for the 5 week period I was doing this work he moaned and complained about collecting DS. But once the contract was over and I was invoicing the client for the work, the cheeky so-and-so asked when was I getting the money because he wanted a new radio  .
Dear OP - if you want to work, then do so and ignore your OH. You might find you really love it. I used to waitress when I was at Uni and loved it, the tips can be good too.
Good luck.

Go for it Mountain, I worked in a pub for a few years (in fact I lived in it too, it was my sister's)
It felt like having a night out every night, made loads of friends AND WORK CONTACTS!!!!
and got paid for it!
It does wonders for your self esteem. If my OH said that it would make me even more determined to go out and do it.

We dont count all the runners ahead of us & feel intimidated.
Instead we look back proudly at our journey, our personal struggle & determination & remember that there are those that never even attempt to reach the starting line.0
