So display the time as a number then! You could use conditional formatting to make it very obvious if it was positive or a negative time displayed.

Thanks for that espresso. it IS displayed as a number but the doinks in HR want to see clearly -1:20 one hour 20 mins or whatever, and then the running total beside it, not 0.00003847 which is what it says at the moment. Look, thanks anyway, I will work it out.

You don't have to use the Time cell format. You can easily calculate the figures without using any Time formatting.
