..partner had tried for 2 hrs during his break to get through to DLA had no luck...i managed to get through and they said he would have to reapply to see if hes still entitled to it....

DLA is not means tested and you can receive it and work so I wouldn't have thought he would need to reapply for it until his current claim is up!. I know you have to inform them if the condition improves and reapply then, is this what they are doing?
I would get some advice from your local CAB before reapplying.

As soon as he starts with the employer ring tax credits as you should be entitled to working tax credits as well as child tax credits. If your income for tax credit purposes is below £15,045 you will also be entitled to free prescriptions etc. You may also still be able to claim HB and help with CT.

Debt now 20th December 2015 £31677.13 Paid Off to date £33962.09 - just not going quickly enough!

Debt free date July 2024! I don't think so, it'll be going quicker than that!!!

i thought the in work credit was just for lone parents tho OP says she has a partner

my husband has just gone back to work after 13 years on incapacity. he is getting the £40 per week as it is offered from the government as a back to work reward for the disabled.
  • hi all thanks for advice and kind words

all we have been told is the £40 is a work credit that he will get for 52 weeks

His DLA is not up for renewal for another 3 yrs he had reapplyed a few months ago for it...His condition is better than it was when i 1st met him but he will never be 'normal' his condition varys on his mood he can have days where he is normal days when very hyper and days when suicidal .... we were told to inform dla that he was returning to work by incapacity... so we did thats when the woman on the phone said he would have to reapply he is going to call them on tuesday morning to find out what is going on,as he was informed he will still get it...as he still needs his care (his boss also knows how to look out for the signs of him becoming hyper or depressed)..

We have informed tax credits so will be entitled to wtc and ctc but the payment amount depends on if he still gets DLA

only people left to inform are carers allowence.. but going to leave that till he talks to the dla

i called housing benefit on friday to inform them that he would be starting work was told we would not be entitled to housing benefit or ct benefit as we would be earning too much. but we will get the 4 week extension on our benefit ... does anyone know what the earnings limit is for housing benefit?..

As far as I know, it is payable of you have been in receipt of certain benefits (not entirely sure which ones) for over 26 weeks (or it was when I got it).

I got it as I had been a lone parent on IS. Total god send but sometimes I wonder whether they would just be better giving you it as a lump sum. Yip, it probably will go in a month but then you aren't used to it for 52 weeks

  • just found this concerning the £40 back to work credit

Return to Work Credit after a period of ill-health

Return to Work Credit is a payment of £40 a week. You can get it if you go back to work after a period of ill-heath, as long as you have been claiming certain benefits.

It is payable for a maximum of twelve months.

Return to Work Credit is non-taxable and is not counted as income if you're claiming Housing Benefit or Council Tax Benefit. It is possible for Working Tax Credit and Child Tax Credit to be paid at the same time as Return to Work Credit.

Return to Work Credit has been introduced as part of the Pathways to Work Scheme and is delivered by Jobcentre Plus. For more information about Return to Work Credit and the Pathways to Work scheme, you can ask at your local Jobcentre Plus office or go to the Jobcentre Plus website

So you weren't a lone parent when you came off IS? You were in a relationship with your partner? If that is the case then no, you would not be entitled to it.

this weekend has been awful he has been very depressed and crying kept saying life was not worth carrying on with. (this is how he gets) hardly had any sleep for 48 hrs as was watching his every waking move ..Hes gone to work this morning feeling a bit better... be glad when hes home as i do worry about him ...

Thanks for the update :) I really admire your partner for taking this step and going back to work.

Sorry things have been tough recently. Hopefully just a blip and get back to normal soon *hugs* x
  • well we informed DLA that partner was returning to work on 27th may we have just recieved the forms off them to see if he still needs the care, he has filled it in and sent it back. Just after he filled it in he broke down crying said it makes him feel worse filling out forms and describing how he feels as he hates talking about it

He seems to be a lot worse than he was before he started work if something is bothering him or he doesnt think hes done somthing right hes awake all night and starts to feel worthless then starts feeling very low.. it takes me all night to get him feeling good about himself .. he has also said his moods seem to be having an effect on those he works with especially the aprentices ... they seem to think he is being funny with them when he is on a downer i have told him today to go in and say to them if they feel his attitude changing to walk away... its not them its just the way he goes and is sometimes best left alone as some of the comments will make him worse

i will keep you updated on what DLA say as to whether he still needs the care or not
