I will second the Maglite quality, I have had dozens of cheapy torches over the years but have a few Maglites that are in perfect working order. Even if you do break something then you can buy ANY part as a spare.
However I agree that the rechargeable kits were insanely expensive, whether £70 or the £120. I will call a couple of local B&Q's tomorrow to see if they have any stock.

Just called B&Q and they say there are no rechargeable maglights on special and they don't know what I'm talking about. Looks liek I will have to drop in and check myself. Can anyone confirm the bar code and exact product name for me to make sure I pick up the right one?
Thanks0 -
Just checked the Cannock Store, they dont sell the rechargeable one by the looks of it, just the standard ones and a mahooosive 2ft long one0

When I was looking for these, B&Q Braehead Glasgow didn't know of them either. Couldn't believe when I saw them in the EK store.
The barcode label (inside the plastic packaging) states:
"RRX4016U Maglite Rechargeable"
Barcode:
0 38739 06673 8
HTH.

bluep wrote:Maglite torches are practically indestructable - fantastic quality - I've never had one break. Argos makes most of their stuff out of disposable plastic don't they? hehe
Plus Maglite are THE name to have if you are bothered by being fashionable at allNot that I am...but it is always nice to give "a name" for a present.
Would have to disagree on this. I thought this too but after the fifth one broke I've decided to try other brands. The casing on Maglites is indestructible but the switches are not, and the focusing mechanism leads to unreliability in the contact between bulb and power.0 -

Neildo.
Neildo, I've sent you a PM.

Think about it buy crappy plastic torch for £5, lasts a year (I doubt it but for arguments sake). In 25 years thats £125, the price of this torch new!! No argument, plus with Mags you can throw them around drive cars over them drop them in a puddle and they still work. Even if its occasional use, its worth the money. At £30 odd dont even think about going to Argos!
I though this is suppsoed to be money saving, in which case think about how long things last and the cost per unit time in comparison with cheaper/poorer models. Its similar to the cost per wear clothes thing...!!!!
Just thought I would add a comment to this about buying quality products in general. If the power goes out in the middle of winter and you need candles, set up space heaters, etc, etc then the fact that your £5 torch breaks when the maglite carries on it becomes clear that not everyhting can be measured in £££. Just a thought.0 -
For those still hunting, especially those in kent, then don't bother much more at either the canterbury store or the whitstable one, both are either sold out or never had any.0
