  • Ermmmmm hang on a moment .....

Never weighed garlic before but yes, a largeish bulb would be around 50g (I cheat and keep a couple of jars of minced garlic and ginger for doing this recipe ;) )

And onions - depends how big they are really but I used 4 large ones yesterday, which according to the greengrocer weighed about 2lb (more or less a kg). When I say large, if I sat on one my hand then it would take both hands to entirely cover it if that's any help?

For onions it depends on the size but about ten average plum sized ones will be close and yes, a full bulb of garlic will be about right too :)

  • Only if they are quite small. I've just weighed ours and 6 is just under and 7 is just over a kg.
Edit: have now weighed the garlic and a whole head of garlic is 50g.

About six large onions are 1 kg, and I'd say 2-3 cloves of garlic are about 50g.

    Thanks!

The kitchen stinks lol! I'm making Curry Queens dansak, does anyone know if 275mls of the curry sauce is about a teacup amount?

    Sorry about this guys! :o

  • I always use a whole tin. If I haven't got a tin of chopped ones handy I use cheapo Lidl's or Aldi's and mash them up a bit. They will cook down so there's no real need to get the processor dirty unless you've already used it for chopping the onions in which case you could give them a very quick whizz.

I'd say probably a bit more than a tea-cup, but you don't have to be exact with these measurements just use what looks right to you with other ingredients you're using :)

Oh, and yes a whole tin of tomatoes, juice and all is fine :D

    Good luck! :T

    It'll do fine.
You don't have to be too precise about curries. If you think about it when Indians cook curries initially they wouldn't have had scales and would have done it all by eye.
