Electricity

Hi there
We are on teo rates for our electricity, day and night. I do most of the washing after 5am as it seems to be cheaper then but it also finishes close to our getting up time so the clothes are hung fairly quickly.
Do you by any chance know if the cheaper night rate also applies during the day at weekends? I tried to find any such info on the powergen bill but no luck
Thanks for any replies!

Check your meter to see if it is the high or low tarriff being clocked up at various times of the day and then you will know when cheap rate is available to you. If you have an old style meter with revolving dials the change in tariff is done mechanically by your meter. Powergen will not know the exact times this happens and they may be slightly different to a neighbour with the same supplier on the same payment structure so you need to check for yourself. My cheap rate should click in at 1am but actually doesn't until 3:30am. It should go off at 8am but doesn't until 11:30am. I only get the 7hrs I'm entitled to but at a slightly different (and IMO better time). Domestic electricity supplies are not cheaper at the weekend because meters are not installed with the capabilities to tell which day it is and adjust the tarif accordingly. HTHLife's a beach! Hi Math
Thanks for your very helpful post. I will check it out.
Silly me, I had assumed that weekends we were on cheaper rate until I stumbled across similar questions in another thread. Not before I had done 4 loads of washing today....and every other weekend

I will phone powergen and have a chat with them about it. My meter has two readings so I always assumed it was an economy 7.Lesson learnt!0
