BT Broadband - need a new modem

I have been with BT Broadband since May. I just camne back from USA with a wireless card and router, but stupid me brought a router that needs an ethernet connection, my BT Broadband is USB

I called BT to ask if I could swap my modem, or even take a new one with another 12 month contract starting form now. The answer was that i could get one if I upgraded, at an extra £10 per month (with an increased allowance of course, but I think even I would struggle to use 15gb)

Is there any way round this? Or do I just start a new hunt for an Ethernet modem?

I'd just shove the router on eBay, sell it to a cable customer, and buy an ADSL router.

why not just get a network card, then get network cable between them?

find out if the router is a modem router, or not - assuming the router is currently wireless, and only a router. All you need to get is an ethernet modem - which you plug into the router via network cable - they only cost £20-£30 on ebuyer
