Action To Get Cheaper Fuel

The Consumers Association is supposed to lead the way, yet their influence is all but nil. Yet Tesco and co have bought about the lowest food prices ever, by pure competition.
And if South Africa has all the diamonds and Russia has all the gas, and the Middle East all the oil, we should be looking to change our ways.
Doing without is one answer.0 -
This whole fuel thing has gone crazy...
The government has increased tax on diesel so much that hauliers now can't compete with foreign lorries on our roads. I read last week that one haulier has a rotation of lorries he sends to France to fill up even though he has no continental business!! How green is this??!!
The government's answer to pollution etc is to tax cars that throw out too much Co2 - how many owner of BMW 5's and gas guzzler sports cars do you think will think twice if they have to pay £400 on road tax - they probably have this amount lost behind the cusions on their car seats! - all peanuts!!
Plus if a BMW owner pays this £400, how is this money used to reduce his emission ???
all gone barmy..
ps: i apologise to all BMW owners, just used as an example!!!0 -
They are trying to cut down and traffic at least in my town, by retstricting lanes from one to two removing rounds abouts and installing traffic lights.0

I got sent this today as well via email. I don't know how many of the people around still manage to move about without bumping into lampposts tbh.Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0

How can two Governments work so differently?

They get subsidies we get the reverse...... :rolleyes:0 -
Prices will always rise and thats life, the thing thats worries people is the rate at which fuel is rising. As a business or private consumer how can you work to a budget when you dont know what your outgoing will be,not just in the medium to long terms but this week and the next and so on.
We have to haggle with our paymasters for a small payrise each year,Then bang! energy companies announce 15% increase is on the way not to long after the last 15% hike, where are we headed with all this? If fuel and energy prices continue to rise as they have been for the next 2 years, what will our country be like at the end of that period??0 -
Welcome to the real world my friend, its a global economy now and we are as much at mercy of it, as the rest of the world.
There are some very glaringly obvious reasons why this email is stupid and I can't even be bothered to write them, just google it.Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0 -
Looks like Brown is getting worried by the high cost of fuel, mainly because as people start to scutinise it more they soon realise how much of it is just tax and is avoidable if they wanted to do something about it, so he'll be after trying to calm things down a bit and keep pointing to the global picture again, so we can get back to the norm of unquestioningly paying extortionate tax like good citizens.
I'm puzzled as to why the Government keeps telling us to use less fuel and drive more efficiently when it actually benefits from the reverse? - it needs this revenue, so what happens if we all did this and the tax income dropped? Where would this lost tax money come from then?
Governments are odd arent they? - if things are going bad it's a global problem outside of their control, but if things are going well it's due to their excellent management skills!0 -
Because no one takes any notice and they know that, we're all too dependant on the car, we need it for everyday life.
I'm puzzled as to why the Government keeps telling us to use less fuel and drive more efficiently when it actually benefits from the reverse? - it needs this revenue, so what happens if we all did this and the tax income dropped? Tax on not using fuel?
The only way to stop people driving so much is to make it massively more expensive and make it once again a rich mans plaything. Trouble is, society as it is won't be able to function like that.Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0
