Help! something strange has happened

After reading the useful software downloads on here yesterday I decided to download CCleaner. I used it & told it to just clean up everything since I wanted to free up as much space as I could & get rid of all the junk.
Well since using that I can't view ebay pages properly & get a message saying the following
"Note: We recently made changes to enable you to view eBay search pages faster. If your eBay pages are appearing in text-only format due to these changes, please upgrade your web browser."
I use Mozilla & I have double checked & it is up to date & I have to mention that I had been on ebay minutes before I used CCleaner & it was fine.
Also on these forums, now when I click to the link to see who has thanked who for posts, it does not work anymore. It just takes me to the top of the page.
I clicked on javascript console on my browser & I have a whole list of errors like this:
"Error: vbmenu_register is not defined
Source File: http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=92531
Line: 459"
& this:
"Error: ebay is not defined
Source File: http://search.ebay.co.uk/point-horror-books_W0QQfromZR8QQfsooZ1QQfsopZ1QQsojsZ0
Line: 9"

& its just a huge list of that.
I don't know what's going on but I can only think it has something to do with CCleaner since I had no problems before.
Can anybody help me?

Thanks so much to anyone who can! :D

Does this occur when you use IE? If not then it's something to do with Firefox, almost sounds like JavaScript is disabled, or its downgraded itself. One option would be to uninstall it, clear out any settings, then reinstall.

  • Sorry to hear about this Loopylou, as i started the thread:eek: oops.

Just to say if you are uninstalling and installing firefox then just make sure you have your bookmarks backed-up. I'm sure you will have thought of that but i thought id just remind you incase.
  • ahh I can't believe I was forced to use IE just then to check ;) :P

I have to say, it worked normally again when I used IE :(

I did think javascript may have somehow been disabled but when I checked the settings it said that it was enabled so it doesn't make much sense.
If the worst comes to the worst I guess I will have to uninstall & then reinstall firefox all over again :/

    thanks for the help :)

hehe, no! it wasn't your fault, I thought it looked like a good programme so it's my own fault. I think I when I cleaned up everything, I must have cleaned up a certain setting because when I signed in to MSN this morning, it came up as though I had just installed it & MSN today popped up & I had disabled it to do that & when I checked, that option was highlighted! :O I was quite worried as it looked as though someone had changed my settings.
Does anyone know if I can do something without having to reinstall everything again? It's such a hassle because I'll lose the extensions & everything & last time I had to do it, I thought I had backed up my bookmarks but then it said they could not be retreived! :O
Thanks for the reminder though about this ;)
  • Have you tried a quick system restore? maybe worth a go.
  • How do I do that?!
Have never had to do it before!
  • Quick question did you use the issue fuction with ccleaner. This is known to delete some reg. keys.

If you look at this thread it tells you how to back up firefox. Then once its saved if you go into the folder you will see a seperate bookmarks folder and extensions folder. Now if you reinstall ff im sure you could copy these folders over to your new ff. I have not done this so i'd wait for someone to come along to tell you if it is poss- maybe when sra logs in, he'll advise.
