Hi
I have a Candy frost free fridge freezer which is over 6 years old, however, the freezer compartment constantly freezes, my neighbour suggested I defrost the freezer using a hairdryer, which I do on a regular basis, however this is a constant pain, I'm on a DMP so funds are very tight, anyone have any recommendations please?
Cheers for any assistance

Without wishing to be obvious, I suggest you try the following options.
1. Ensure the seals are clean and intact all the way round and not completely crushed. There needs to be some flexibility to ensure a good seal. If the seal is damaged it needs replacing. To get parts Put the name, model number and parts into google and see if there is an internet supplier.
2. Ensure the settings are set correctly, ie fridge at middle position, similar for freezer.
3. If all this is OK its probably the thermostat. You need a fridge repair man. Try and find one through recommendation, do not be tempted by 0800 numbers and no call out fee, its going to cost say £60, about £20 or less for thermostat and £40 to install.
4. I assume you have removed all blockages to free airflow from round the machine?
Best of luck

I has this problem a while back with a Hotpoint. The 'thermistor' needs replacing. It's a sensor which tells your auto defrost to work. The one in the freezer compartment has cracked and is giving wrong information to the system. So it never fully defrosts and ice builds up. They cost about £15. But unless you want to try and install it, then a fridge man is likely to charge you £30-50 for his services. At least you get the benefit of other circuit checks to be sure. I could easily replace mione now that I saw how easily it was done, but I was always unsure that I correctly diagnosed the problem.NO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Hi Guys
Thanks to both of you, I've no idea how to locate the 'thermistor' let alone replace it, do you know if there is a "Fridge" trade association where I can contact someone who's not going to rip me off, I'd rather not use yellow pages if possible, if it helps, I'm located in Birmingham.

I tried that site once, could'nt get anyone to respond.
Look in the yellow pages and look for a local firm that you have seen around or their vans for many years. Phone them, and ask them for an estimate to repair the thermistor in your freezer. Or tell them what it's doing. They should give you a price and stick to it. +NO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!0 -
Hi,
According to the whitegoods website, the engineers have to meet certain standards. I work for a whitegoods manufacturer and their website is one that we sometimes use for reference, there are some excellant articles and advice. Haven't needed to book a repair through them (touch wood!) but providing they have someone in your area I'd say its worth a try.0 -

One thing if anyone can help, when the engineer makes contact with me, how do I come to an agreement on the price of his call out / repair / replacement parts, I petrified of being ripped off.(Sorry if that sounds stuipd)Click here for Martins (MSE) advice on who to contact with Debt Issues - YOU HAVE NO REASON TO USE A FEE PAYING DEBT MANAGEMENT COMPANY- THEY CANNOT DO ANYMORE FOR YOU THAN THOSE LISTED IN MY LINK ABOVE.

Thanks folks, I run UK Whitegoods and yes, all the repairers are vetted. If they don't meet the standards they get kicked off, it's that simple. We watch and we regulate it vigourously, any comments are addressed one way or another.
To go back the original problem, the Candy made fridge freezers (frost free under Hoover, Kelvinator and other brands) do suffer from control PCB failures, a sort of electronic thermostat if you like, which can cause over-freezing. Replacement part, roughly, is about £50 or so plus fitting. The thermistors do also fail but not as often as the PCBs do sadly.
N9, if you let me know the details it will be looked into. We don't take kindly to people not being contacted.

Thank you kwatt, your post has given me the confidence to book on your website, may I ask a question, why does it require an address, I worry about giving personal details on websites that are not 128bit secure, I'd have no problem with just my phone number.Click here for Martins (MSE) advice on who to contact with Debt Issues - YOU HAVE NO REASON TO USE A FEE PAYING DEBT MANAGEMENT COMPANY- THEY CANNOT DO ANYMORE FOR YOU THAN THOSE LISTED IN MY LINK ABOVE.
