Maglite prices slashed

Can anybody find it cheaper before I buy 1.
You won't get it cheaper than 7dayshop.
I'm not sure on the prices of the LED C and D cell units, but a few months ago a normal Maglite from 7dayshop and a Terralux TLE-6EX LED upgrade from Ebay worked out cheaper than the equivalent LED Maglite.
Also if you want compact bright torches, then check out the Fenix range from somewhere like www.glowgadgets.com (UK supplier)
For example a "Fenix P3" is smaller than a 2 AA maglite (about 4") but brighter than a 5D Maglite (about 13"). OK they cost a little more, but are much, much more useful0 -
Along with ledshoppe, dealextreme have a pile of torches. Probably not as good as a Maglite, but probably better pound for pound.
They also have a pile of Fenix torches.
A lot of people raving about the LED components made by this mob too. They say it's genetic, they say he can't help it, they say you can catch it - but sometimes you're born with it0 -
Wow, I have genuinely had my eyes opened to the world of torches (and the people who but them !!! )
I really didn't realise that there are people out there who are prepared to pay £30+ for a TORCH and get so hung up about the pro's and con's of such devices.
I've never paid more (or less!!) than a pound for a torch, and as far as I'm concerned, it's an emergency device to keep keep in a drawer, or in the boot of the car just in case. Sadly, my £1 torch doesn't come with a lifetime guarantee so if it does fail, I guess I'll have to splash out another pound to buy a new one  (and if I want a weapon, I'll buy a baseball bat!!! )
I really am flabbergasted to hear that people can justify paying so much for a temporary light source which must clearly cost just a few pence to manufacture - and this is a money-saving forum!!!.
Oh well, each to their own.

Ian
A few pence?
As with everything there are pros and cons. Does it not make sense to weigh these up before buying? For you a torch is for emergencies, consigned to the drawer for most of its life, but a lot of people use their torches daily, when walking the dogs, at work, you name it.
It is indeed a moneysaving forum, but you don't save money by getting the cheapest thing you can find, you do it by finding the best price for the most suitable item, whether it's a torch or a PC or a TV. If the most suitable item for you costs a pound then great, but to ridicule people for shelling out for a quality tool that'll get used and will last seems more than a little trollish to me.They say it's genetic, they say he can't help it, they say you can catch it - but sometimes you're born with it0 -

£30? how about a Gladius for £185? and there are plenty of more expensive lights than that.
I have never spent that much on a torch but have bought a few around the £35-40 mark, if you work at night, or in the emergency services a good torch is essential, do you really think your life is only worth £1, Ian?
When you buy a £30 torch you have a far better chance of reliability and the torch will be powerful enough to shine further than just in front of your feet like the £1 does.
If anyone is wanting a decent reasonably priced torch the Fenix range are excellent, and the best dealer I have come across is https://www.fenix-store.com which is actually located in the US but has free postage to the UK.====0 -
Oh well, that's me told then. :silenced:weegie.geek wrote: »A few pence?

Sorry if I "ridiculed" anyone - it wasn't my intention, just an observation. I'm sure these expensive torches are really very good and well worth the money  - I guess I'm just a skin-flint for only spending a quid on my torches.:D0 -
I don't know if this should really be on the grab it board, as 7dayshop has these prices all the time. I have been shopping from them for the last 7-8 years for all sort of things since their prices were (most of the time) competitive and they always have been very reliable. Please keep in mind that they ship from Guernsey island and regular post can take a bit longer. Carpe diem --> Seize the day :rolleyes20 -
I'm not so naive to think that the emergency services buy their torches at Poundland, and I'm willing to accept that there are certain people who need a good quality torch and would be willing to pay for it - but for the average man (and woman!!) in the street, it's a lot of money to spend on a torch.£30? how about a Gladius for £185? and there are plenty of more expensive lights than that.

I'm not having a pop at the OP for posting - I'm just saying that I am surprised to see that people are willing to pay so much for a torch (even if it is a "bargain"). It's just an observation, not a criticism!!!0 -
Yeah, I posted a while back that people seem to abuse the "grabbit" board rather than post in "shop don't drop". The guidelines for "grabbit" state that you should specify when the offer ends, but most people don't adhere to this as in general, most offers posted don't have an end date - ie THEY'RE NOT GRABBITS !!! :wall:I don't know if this should really be on the grab it board, as 7dayshop has these prices all the time. I guess that's the way it is and people are unwilling to change old habits. :rolleyes:Yeah, a useful "heads up" by the OP, but not exactly a "grabbit" (but then again, neither are quite a lot of the posts on the grabbit board). :wall:
Personally, I think the grabbit board should be merged with the "shop don't drop" board since people post on the grabbit board even when the offer is not ending soon (and especially in the case of the supermarkets, unless it's an end-of-line product, stocks are almost certainly going to be replenished).
As I've said in the past, ANY good deal risks selling out quickly, but if the offer doesn't expire soon then it's not a grabbit. If you're posting on the grabbit board JUST because you think it's a good deal then why would anyone post on the "shop don't drop" board ?
Anyone else think it's time for a re-jigging of the boards ? :think:0 -
I used to think maglights were very expensive - a situation that changed after finding the cheap one I was going to use had broken (again;)).
If you just want it for the odd use then definately go for a cheap one, but if you want one that you can rely on/use a lot a more expensive one works out cheaper in the long run* (imo) - at least for the smaller ones (2x AA maglight about £8, with spare bulb in base, equivilent cheapy about £1-2 and generally much lighter/weaker construction with no spare bulb).
If you just want a torch to keep in a cupboard and use once or twice a year then a maglight is never going to be a "bargain", but these prices are a bargain for a maglight.
*My ones are about 5-8 years old and still going strong despite being dropped in water, on the path, stood on, sprayed with water (when hoolding it in my teeth to do tricky plumbing).0
