Perhaps with that attitude you deserve what you got.

Being all supportive and cuddly and feeling sorry for you gets you nothing. You posted information and there are inconsistencies in that information that, if you were to make a complaint using the same wording, the bank could use that to reject your complaint.

Your OH has a lot of culpability here. He agreed to open the account. He agreed to the terms. He has ignored the statements for years allowing it to build up. He must have ignored the periodic letter saying the account was over it's limit.

If he has a mental problem that prevents him from being accountable for his own actions then the bank will have to refund the charges as there are cases evidenced in the FOS publications where this has happened. If he agreed to it and is capable of making decisions then he has to take responsibility. In which case you are basically looking at the goodwill between yourselves and the bank to get all or some of these charges back.

I give up I have explained as best I can, Im not asking for you or anyone else to be supportive & cuddly. I didn't get into this mess, my partner did I am trying to help him get out of it & from the facts that I have I think Natwest are wrong. I have admitted that my partner made mistakes but the fact remains he tried to cancel this account before it got this bad & they wouldn't do it. He hasn't ignored the statements for years the account was opened in August 2007. I came here for advice & to see if anyone else had similar expeiences. Thankfully the situation is now being sorted & after following some advice on here & contacting Natwest complaints dept by phone my partner has an appointment next week with the manager at the branch to discuss this problem. I pity any poor suicidal person who comes here looking for help & advice on their poor financial situation.

Another bit of good news that I would like to share with all of you nice people, my partner was offered a job today at a parcel distribution centre. So he now has a job & an appointment with the bank manager to try to sort out this mess. I have still sent all the info in a written complaint though just in case the bank manager tries to fob him off again, after all I don't think that he's likely to admit that his assistant manager was in the wrong. At least the complaints people said that no more charges will be added on whilst the account is under investigation. I will keep you informed. Thanks you.

Define a troll please, some twa*t called me one on the Mortgages forum a couple of weeks ago because they chose not read my post correctly.

It seems that certain t*ats like to use this word to insult posters. Her is the definition.
An Internet troll, or simply troll in Internet slang, is someone who posts controversial and usually irrelevant or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum or chat room, with the intention of baiting other users into an emotional response[1] or to generally disrupt normal on-topic discussion.

How this applies the my post I do not know?

Ah well, most of the people that I talk to on here must be troll's then, we always wander off topic from time to time, and we do winde people up from time to time as well, thanks for the definition anyway, I am sure it will come in usefull one day.
Since when has the world of computer software design been about what people want? This is a simple question of evolution. The day is quickly coming when every knee will bow down to a silicon fist, and you will all beg your binary gods for mercy.
