Do not get any Egyptian pounds before you go, you do not need them. When you get to your hotel, they all have banks, well most of the 4 star and up, and you will get a better rate of exchange in Egypt.

You do not actually need any Egyptian pounds as they prefer foreign currency, US Dollars or EURO.

We have been to Egypt 5 times and prefer to take US $ and now is even better as the exchange rate is so good.

We have been to Taba and Sharm.

MrsE - No!! The visa costs the equivalent of $15, which is around £8. What you do is offer a £10 note and you will get a visa and the change in local currency - about LE20 at the moment. Only reps are charging £10 without change, £12 or even more.

Oh, I was told that on holiday truths.

That if you paid in sterling or Euros, they charged you "more".

In Turkey, if you give a £20 for a £10 visa, you probably won't get change. If you give a £20 note for 2 £10 visas, its only for one & you gotta pay another £10 for the other one:mad:

Oh well MrsE! Next time - go to a bank kiosk, not to a rep, and wait for your change. I go 4 times a year and promise you this is how it works!
  • The visa is clearly marked as $15. Dont pay anymore. If you go to Sharm you will need one to go to Ras Mohammed.
