Thanks everyone once more. OH went to view a 2 bed flat (coach house) this afternoon, signed all the papers, paid the fees to the letting agent... £125 for the 1st applicant and £75 for the second!!!!!

Hopefully, credit check will come back fine tomorrow and references will be done very very soon!!!! I want to get the keys on Thursday next week...

    Hi,

If the survey has just been done, it can still take a while. We are in a very similar position and the survey on our place was done a couple of months ago and we still haven't exchanged. We were told it can take a couple of weeks to sort out a rental - so assuming three weeks is a good way to go.

I would wait until exchange is imminent. Let YOUR solicitor know your position - they should be able to tell you when they believe exchange is about a week away. You can tell them that once exchanged, you want two weeks at least until completion to sort out rentals. The time between exchange and completion can drag out when large chains are involved so two to three weeks is nothing extreme to ask for.

In the current market, don't delay exchange, but once that's sorted, you can legitimately ask for a period between that and completion to sort out the new accommodation.

People should never to be afraid to store their stuff and stay in a B&B/motel for a few weeks or even months.

Mosts B&Bs will do you a great deal if you're planning on staying for more than a week... can often work out CHEAPER than renting!!!
Bankruptcy isn't the worst that can happen to you. The worst that can happen is your forced to live the rest of your life in abject poverty trying to repay the debts.

We need to move regardless of the sale - my OH is already working up North and I am starting my job as well. Besides, company is paying relocation for a while longer.

We don't need to move out the stuff of the house, it is just that we would not be able to get any day off to move after I start a new job and I have got a break in between jobs, second half of the next week.

We are going to hope that people respond quickly for references. We will need to ask nicely!!!

Just wanted to say GOOD LUCK!

What area is the rented house in?
I live up in the NW and work in Warrington and eventually want to move to the East Midlands (just looking at where)! so we are sort of in the completely reverse situation :)

All I will say is ring the estate agents regularly and push them to find out what stage your application is currently at - the estate agents we are with now were awful when we were applying, I felt like I was really persistant but it seemed to go nowhere unless I was ringing them every day to hurry them up a bit!!

Also, ask that they ask for your references faxed wherever possible - I know that sounds obvious but our last EA sent stuff through the post that could have been faxed through and at least theres no chance of it getting lost.

Hope it all works out well for you.

The house we are applying for is near Euxton. The credit check should be done today. That would be the first move forward!!!!
