Help: Need a house to rent - in a week!!!!

Ok, so we had an offer on our hosue. We accepted, got survey done today. Iam starting a new job in June and we need to move to the nw location (which is 100+ miles away). I have two days off work next week to sort out the moving.

But we have no house to move too!!!!! an anyone suggest where to look for private rentals? I don't mind anymore if it is a 2 bed flat, but we need to be able to move in next Thursday/Friday.

I am not in the area and my husband is trying to go and do the viewings after work, but EAs don't really work that long and all he can do is go with one EA per day. It all so seems that all places we call are already let!

How quick can we sort out the paperwork through the EA? One of them said it can take 3 weeks!!! I don't really have that much time...

Please, can anyone point us in the right direction???

Try Rightmove, most EAS take a week to do references, however. You may have to resort to storage and a Travelodge for a few days, I'm afraid... But thre's always hope! Where are yu moving to, just in case anyone here has special local knwledge?

Why not just move into a private hotel/b&b or a holiday flat for the first two weeks.

It'll cost you a little more probably but it's money well spent as you're not forced into signing something in haste that you'll regret.

You've not said what area you're moving to, people here often have detailed local knowledge.

Try rightmove and gumtree for adverts

When I moved areas it could take a week to get a viewing from an agent. They're really quite slack! Then a further week to get the references sorted. Then the landlord wanted to do some small jobs in it first too.

We are moving to Chorley-Preston area. We know the areas we want to rent in, it is just that we can't seem to find anything still available. We are not planing to rent for a long time - this is a temporary stop until we find a hosue to rent (we are giving ourselves 6 months).

Do widen your search to places that might not be obvious, eg holiday lets, B&B, caravans, Travelodge etc. With the survey just done on your own place, you still need to seriously consider the downside, the buyer pulling out, gazundering etc. Are you sure weekly commuting isn't another option at the moment? Don't let the buyer become aware of your pressing situation else it will be turned to their advantage.

No, commute is not an option. The company is covering rent for a while still, so we can still afford to rent the hosue in new place and pay the mortgage. We do understand that nothing is certain until the contracts are exchanged and the commute would kill me - it is 100+ miles each way! Besides, the distance betwen mine and OH's jobs is about 50 miles as well...

Here's a selection of rental properties within 5 miles of PR6. Hope some may be suitable.

Ring council - see what they can do for you.
My friend got job in Preston and they sorted him out with a flat fairly quickly.

They may have a list of places that let out houses - an approved list - or B&Bs as someone's suggested.

Otherwise it's get up there with an a-z and the evening paper the minute it comes out and get somewhere. Hard work though.

My brother in law has an almost new two bedroom property near Squires Gate in Blackpool, easy commute to Preston. He's actually there today organising things with the agent. It will be available from Sunday onwards. You couldn't get references by then but if you were prepared to pay rental in advance it may be ok. Do you want me to speak to him for you? The property is furnished at the moment.

My job is in Warington, my OH is in Thornton, so we actually need to find something in between, so that we can share the commute...

Thanks everyone for your support - it is really appreciated. I feel like i am breaking up at the moment!
