It's just that I was thinking that overall they make money so do they really care if the balance is cleared in full or not?
Hmmm, they definitely do make money on the merchant fees for each transaction, so if you are using the card and clearing the balance in full they are probably not going to see you as a "bad" customer.
However, if you carry a balance forward that accrues interest, then they make much more than they would if you settle the balance in full each month.
They may get a little nervous though if a large balance is carried forward and you start to miss payments or go over your limit.
So, yeah, I guess the best customer is one who carries a balance, only makes minimum payments so that interest is accrued, but is consistent in making payments on time and not exceeding their credit limits.
I bet they have software that assesses each customer to determine how profitable they could be for them, or how much of a risk they are likely to be.0
