Halifax telephone interview

  • Don't lie - the person that calls you will most likely be from HR and that is their job, its highly unlikely to be the manager of the branch or anything, so you are dealing with somebody who has heard it all.

    This is what I do (although not for Halifax) :)

    Answer the questions fully and give good RELEVANT examples. It is fairly likely that it will be compentency based i.e. How did you/what is your experience of dealing with a difficult customer etc. etc. So just make sure you have a few good answers to the most popular ones prepared. BUT don't write them down and read them off to the interviewer because we don't like that. It sounds scripted and unnatural and we can tell.

    And for gods sakes, sound enthusiastic!!! I can't tell you how many interviews i've done when the candidate sounds like hes just got up in the morning and can't be arsed.

    Also, if the interviewer asks if you've had a good day, just say yes. We don't need to hear how you cat died or you've been to the doctors today because your foof is itchy :)
    What the Deuce?

    I did the good old tests at the face to face interview, 6 years ago - still there lol. and had to do role play on selling (crucial part of job) and interview questions - was there for a few hours

    this was before they did the telephone based convo's first

    they are very hot on getting references prior to starting and history of employment as well as credit check

    Hi all I have a telephone interview with a bank tommorow afternoon, i only have retail experience and the job ive applied for is customer advisor position, I really dont want to be turned down, could you share some good answers and ways to describe yourself please etc confident,positive attitude. Thanks:beer:

    Retail experience has a lot of transferrable skills. Look at what you'll need to do and compare it with what you do. You'll deal with difficult customers, easy customers, money.

    and your role play
  • I had the telephone interview with Halifax yesterday. They were really friendly and explained the role you have applied for asking if this is something you wish to do.
    I applied for a Customer Service role within the bank itself, you need to achieve for solid leads a day and just generally be confident in yourself.

    They open with a few questions like;
    are you eligible to work in the UK?
    are you ok to travel to another bank for training before starting in the bank you applied for?

    The maths questions were pretty simple;
    1. A woman has open a savings account and puts £70 into the account every month for twelve months. At the end of the year she has £910. How much of this is interest?
    £70 x 12 = £840.
    £910 - £840 = £70

    2. A man bought car insurance last year for £700 and this year has been awarded a no claims bonus discount of 5%. Whats is his new premium?
    £700 divide by 100 = £7
    £7 x 5 = £35
    £700 - £35 = £665

    3. At the start of the day your till has £5000 in the float. A customer debits £750 into an account. The next customer withdraws £280.
    What is the new balance of the float?
    £5000 + £750 = 5750
    £5750 - £280 = £5470

    They also ask you describe a time you gave excellent customer service and explain how you went the extra mile for the customer.

    There was a second one but I've completely forgotten it but it wasn't difficult.

    If you pass this stage you go to a face to face interview.
  • I have a phone interview on Sat for the customer adviser role, and I want to get a insight of the questions that I maybe asked?

  • I have just had my phone interview for HBOS (customer advisor), it only lasted about 15mins and all they really wanted to know about was my experience. He started off asking about the role and what i knew about it, then wanted to know about customer service and sales experience. I found out that i got through about 5mins after the phone call.

    Good luck
