first tip is HBoS is a very corporate company, they love all the in buzzwords etc, the hot one at the moment is 'TCF' - treating customers fairly so bung that in and it will go down a treat!!

You may be asked to give examples of scenarios where you have displayed good customers service so try and think of one that shows you are aware of both the client and the company needs (if it doesnt apply then be honest) they may give you a scenario so think along those lines just in case.

You may be asked about your interests and hobbies etc, normal answers are fine.

Don't lie - the person that calls you will most likely be from HR and that is their job, its highly unlikely to be the manager of the branch or anything, so you are dealing with somebody who has heard it all.

    And be friendly!!

Good luck, let us know how you get on.

What job are you going for btw, is it actually in the bank itself ?
:D I understand ALOT more than I care to let on :D

Great, I got an email from today saying I have been successful and was asked to fill out and send back an attatched file via email, just wondering how strict they are with checking previous employment reference as my attendance at my previous workplace was not excellent

they do do it - wouldnt worry too much they employ so many people that i think it would have to be pretty dire to have too much of an effect.

Well done on getting the response you wanted, do you have to go for a formal interview now ? bit confused about what the file is.

The file was of how many days Ive taken off work/education in the past 12 months, I filled in 4/5 days from work and a couple from education (college) and wrote why (illness/injured foot), do they look for people with excellent attendance in past employment because I did take days off due to health problems, i think they will probably call up the college/previous employment to check this up maybe before getting back to me for the formal interview? Do you know what the salary per hour is?

Raptorian - I had this telephone interview today for customer advisor. The numerical questions were very easy. They were - A customer pays £70 a month into a savings account, after 12 months the balance is £910. How much interest have they earned?

Also - You are balancing your till at the end of the day. The total amount is £2035.36. £1235.56 of it are cheque payments. How much cash is there?

The third was a percentage, can't remember the wording but it was basically - What is 1% of £4500

Your questions may not be the same but these will give you a general idea. Hope that helps.
  • thanks alot wildt for thr reply besides the numerical questions where any other important questions asked?
