No collection

I have an item listed for £4.99, with postage of £1.50 and have been asked if a winning bidder can collect.
I am not really happy with this as I don't want buyers coming round to my home address.
If you were looking to buy something, would a 'no collection' comment in the description put you off ? I have 4500 feedback, with 100% positive. My DSR is 4.9 for everything.

Agree with you. No collection unless it not convenient to post such as car etc.charlies_mum wrote: »I am not really happy with this as I don't want buyers coming round to my home address..charlies_mum wrote: »If you were looking to buy something, would a 'no collection' comment in the description put you off ? I think it will not.0 -
Just tell them that you work away from home, and collection is not convenient.
They should have asked the question before bidding, rather than after they had won.<--- Nothing to see here - move along --->0 -
it would only put me off if it was a large item with expensive postage, but for something with postage of only a couple of pounds it wouldnt.0

Did you list it at 4.99 because you think that's how much it's worth? Or are you expecting it to bid up a lot.
If the person lives on the same street seems pointless posting it, and it may encourage the person to pay more for the item.
Might even be worthwhile seeing if they'll buy outside of ebay?0 -

WOW, there can't be many people with that score after these new rules.
Anyway, whats wrong with someone coming to collect? Anyone who bought an item from you could easily find your house if they wanted to, so I don't really see the difference.
We often have people collecting, all we stipulate is no paypal.0 -
It's often inconvenient for the seller, they can choose not to allow collection if they wish."Beautiful young people are accidents of nature, But beautiful old people are works of art."

I wouldn't allow collection, you have the inconvenience of waiting around for them etc and I'd just rather not have ebay buyers turning up at my home =/ Unless I'm selling a large item and state the item is to be collected, everything gets sent RM Recorded or Parcelforce 48hr.
I've bought from someone who lived in the same town and I paid the postage for the item to be sent, I did not, nor would I ask to collect! Stating no collection wouldn't stop me bidding.
If you were charging an excessive amount for p&p I could maybe understand but £1.50? I'd decline. The £2.00 Coin Savers Club = approx £22.00  :j.. The 20p Savers Club = £17.80.

The problem i have found when people collect items is they say i'll be round on say thursday afternoon or sunday morning. Which means you have to stay in until they have been which can spoil a day off.0

As others say, if you don't wish to offer a collection in person service, feel free to reject this request.
As regards the question of would it put off a potential bidder, you need to better understand the reason for the request if possible.
It could simply be that the bidder wants to save the cost of postage. In this case it wouldn't put me off bidding but I may bid less as I always look at the total price including any delivery charge when deciding how much to bid. But on a postage price you've quoted, unless they live so close to you that they can walk to your house, the chances are that it will cost more than £1.50 to collect anyway.
If they really do live that local and you want to secure a sale, some options you may want to think about are:
1) offer to take it around to their house free of charge
2) offer to allow collection from your place of work (if convienient). I've collected an item like this before
3) offer to meet at some mutually agreeable point e.g. coffee shop. I've often seen London sellers offering to allow collection of small items from bus or underground stations, but always thought this to be quite risky. I'd feel much safer in a place like Starbucks or McDonalds personally.
The other reason people ask to collect in person is that they may need the item urgently. You can mitigate this by politely explaining that you will post the item as soon as cleared payment is received, although by your feedback score & ratings I would assume this was the case anyway. Perhaps you could offer them delivery by first class post (perhaps at the small extra cost of this service) if obtaining the item quickly is important to the buyer.
The other reason I sometimes request to collect an item in person is that I feel suspect about the item or the seller. In this case I would want to inspect the item to ensure it was as described before parting with my money. Failure to allow (cash on) collection in such circumstances could put me off bidding. But with the price of the item you are selling and your current feedback, I don't think this would apply in this instance."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100
