  • That would be a bit of a stupid move on the part of all companies that make email clients, due to the number of people that use web based email accounts.
Sometimes i surprise myself by being right.

It would, it is, and it unfortunately does seem to be the case.

If anyone can tell me how to access my gmail and yahoo accounts with MS Outlook I would be most appreciative. It would have to be through some sort of 'hack' as the MS website and help files say only hotmail can be used.
  • see here for gmail for outlook express/2002 (presuming your on windows) see here or here.

Both Yahoo and Hotmail are working on catching up with Gmail:

But nothing looks as good as gmail.

I did a survey for yahoo last week and they asked me to tick the features I'd like to see. One of the ones listed was have multiple email addresses on the one account.

I think the first to offer that will have me for life. I'll be finally able to have several email addresses assigned to the same account without having to mess abut with forwarding etc.

Gmail with POP you recieve your emails and with the different from addresses you can send emails making it look like it came from your yahoo address instead of gmail:
You can customize the 'From:' field of any Gmail message you send so it appears to be from another one of your email addresses. Here's how:

    1. Log in to your Gmail account.
    2. Click 'Settings' along the top of any page, and then select the 'Accounts' tab.
    3. Click 'Add another email address' in the 'Send mail as:' section.
    4. Enter your full name in the 'Name:' field, and the email address you'd like to send messages from in the 'Email address:' field. *Keep in mind that each time someone replies to a message you send using a custom 'From:' address, the reply will be delivered to the 'From:' address rather than your Gmail address. If you'd like replies to be delivered to another account, you'll need to enter a 'reply-to' address. Just click 'Specify a different reply-to address' to enter this information.
    5. Click 'Next Step >>,' and then click 'Send Verification' to complete the process. Gmail will send a verification message to your other email address to confirm that you'd like to add it to your Gmail account. You'll need to click the link in that message, or enter the confirmation code in the 'Accounts' section of your Gmail account, to complete the process. Once you've verified that you'd like to add the address to your account, you can start sending messages using your custom 'From:' address.
Tip: If you have a number of different email addresses, enter all of them in your Gmail account, and then select a different address to send each of your messages from, depending on what you're sending.
taken from here( not sure if you can get access without having an account).

    I know about that. icon7.gif

But it's not quite as convenient as having it all on the same account - you still have to maintain your other accounts. Besides, if you send to a yahoo address, the new Yahoo Domain Keys anti-phishing/spam system flags it almost as if your mail is fraudulent because it is not coming from where it says it is.

In addition, I think email you send that way contains your private gmail address in the full headers anyway so people will know your private address (can't remember for sure).

When I was looking at this a few weeks ago, I couldn't find the optin in gmail. I soon found that it is only offered if you have set your language as English-US. English-UK doesn't just give you slightly different spelling - it gives you different options and content as well!
