Do you really need it spelled out to you, Dunstonh?
Yes.
Gilly has refered to her cancer diagnosis, treatment and continuing health problems.
Not in detail that lets us know if there are issues with life expectancy. It s not unreasonable that she would now like to get some pleasure from her invesments!
That has not been hinted at in the posts as the reason. There is also a spouse as well and we know nothing about him.
If Gilly is going to make a decision based on comments on this board then it makes sense for us to comment knowing why she thinks the way she is.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0 -
Thank you all - I will explain why I feel like I do.
- My cancer treatment is still ongoing and I have a 30% chance of it returning. So I live in hope and try to think positive.
- My husband was on Incapacity Benefit and now receives his State pension only.
- My State Pension is not a full pension and if we did not have savings we would receive pension Credit.
- We do not have an expensive lifestyle and run two cars as we live in the country. These cars are I suppose our luxury. Although these last two years we have taken a family holiday here in England and share the costs.
- My husband leaves all the decisions regarding our money to me.
- Maybe our home is worth around 375k so we could downsize if we had to. Although we enjoy living where we are now and it would be a last resort. In fact not working has given me a chance to enjoy my home.
- We own some farm land worth hopefully around 60k but I feel that is at least an investment that we hold onto for the rainy day as it should stay more stable than monetary investments.
- I am feeling different than last time regarding this recesssion probably for several reasons (a) I was earning which left our savings un-touched. (b) Listening to experts on the radio none of them seem to agree that this recession is the same as before.
- No-one can say just ride this one out for another year and it will all pick up can they?
- If I went to a financial advisor I feel that maybe I would be paying someone to give their best advice but they too, surely in these circumstances, have a tough job.
- So my options maybe would be to -
(b) Hang in there and cash in an ISA if we need extra to live on rather than the others listed.
I am grateful to you all to allow me to express my thoughts.0 -
Do you think my post is easy to find?
When I look at New Posts it does not seem that easy to find?
