People need to stop bashing M&S. At the end of the day the store is a business not a charity! - They are here to make money. The company has a PLAN A policy, ie recycling, cutting down on food packaging which you can find on the M&S website!
Also, it is complete rubbish that M&S go for the 'snob' customer. I bet you have not checked out the 'outstanding value range' of clothing - ie school clothing, bedding etc. Most of the time the food is on offer, ie dine in for £10 is on every two weeks now!
1) Waste: You may have mentioned it before, but you are wrong.
2) Bashing: M&S are bashing themselves with their weak business practices. As a ‘business student’ have you not seen the frequent bleating by Stuart Rose, CEO, on news sites for the last three years or so where M&S are mystified and upset about their profits?
3) Snob: A brief walk around my local M&S easily reveals where their customer base lies. A walk around the car park will confirm it. Unfortunately that customer base is shrinking and M&S have not adjusted their strategy. Dine in for £10 beautifully demonstrates what is wrong at M&S to me.
I have checked out their ranges, AND I used to work there. Flimsy summer shorts at £39.99 and a not special polo shirt at £19.99 were just two items I didn’t buy recently when returning their vastly inferior underwear for a refund. In the 70s and 80s my wife and I bought loads at M&S. Our spend there has pretty much dwindled to nothing in the last few years. Their particular slice of the retail cake will get smaller still unless they wake up.
IMO Sainsburys and, for example, Waitrose, hanker after the well-heeled customer too. Tesco went that route in 06, 07 and early 08, but have rapidly backtracked during mid 08, on seeing their market share begin to suffer. Now they promote the ‘cheaper option’ quite happily. It’s called cutting your coat according to your cloth.0 -
The fresh orange juice cantaminaed by immigrants - I think getting rid of the lot was clearly the best idea - where do you think the stowaways were relieving hemselves for the journey!!0
