Orange Phone Bills and Direct Debit
Just discovered a secret Orange would rather you didn't know. If you DO NOT subscribe to a Direct Debit on your account Orange will charge you £3 for THEIR INCONVENIENCE as do most other providers....however, if you take the monthly bill into any Orange store and pay over the counter by cash, charge or credit card they will refund you the £3 there and then. As I have had numerous errors with my monthly Orange bill and their customer service is farcical, I cancelled my direct debit and refused to pay the £3 charge but a chance meeting with a store manager opened my eyes to this option that Orange negated to tell me in 5 months of heated debate and constant adjusting of my account. I now just wait for the bill then pop into the store and all is settled...MAGIC

'Glad' to know I,m not the only one with Orange DD problems. Not one right in 5 months...even though supposed to be 'monitored'.
But there is a very serious twist on his (someone who knows how might wnat to put this on the banking board). Orange claim they can't change the Invoice/DD after it is raised...of couse that is nonsense...just won't because they make money out of it. So even having admitted it is wrong they take the excess sum they have invoiced by DD.
But try claiming under your banks 'absolute' DD guarantee...the one we all think makes DD safe. No chance! It's not an 'error' if they collect the sum they invoice even if they know and admit it is wrong.
This is a fundamental failing in the DD system which puts us all at risk. OK,Orange arn't likely to defraud us (?) but there are plenty who will. BACS who run the system refuse to comment.
However on tuesday BACS are meeting with Orange on this specific point. If you have these problems raise it with your bank...I suggest with your bank's appointee on the BACS board...list on BACS website.0 -
