I like a nice shiny finish though...so was thinking of Dulux non-drip Gloss (pure brilliant white high gloss).

I don't think Satinwood is as bright?
But if you're still saying that Satinwood doesn't smell as much then I may consider that due to my wife being pregnant... (fumes are bad!)

Forgot to say don't forget half the price you pay for crown, dulux etc is for the cost of their TV advertisments

I used the search function and this topic was appropriate. Also thought the original posters may also reply and the answers given were also to assist other that may search similar questions...

So, is high gloss a no-no? Even in terms of style and decor...

Good prep, Crown undercoat and Focus's own's brand Eggshell applied in 2000 and it's still nice and white even with a lab and kids.
Five exclamation marks the sure sign of an insane mind!!!!!

  • Agree - preparation is the most important part. Most decent brand gloss paints will last if properly prepared and painted on top of two coats of undercoat. Some cheap brands can be OK but most will be cheap because they have been thinned down.

hi ive solved the yellowing problem with gloss paint by using international cupboard paint in brilliant white about £17 per tin but goes further than gloss and over a good undercoat its perfect we painted all the doors in this in the house and left a small bit 2ins x 2ins of hidden door frame painted with dulux brilliant white ,inside 2 months the dulux bit was yellow and 4 years later all our doors painted with cupboard paint are still brilliant white --- and we all smoke in our house have central heating and gas fires and have 7 grandchildren that bash doors accidentally with toys we have a cat that uses its claws to pull doors open and still as good as new and have vertical blinds so not much sunlight infact the doors look as though they were painted yesterday -- its very hard wearing the international brand paint as its designed to cover melamine kitchen cupboard. we will always use this if we need to repaint ever again but at moment all white paintwork done in this paint and doesnt look like we will be painting again for years gill c

I'm about to apply white gloss paint to woodwork, and having it go yellow after a few years does not appeal.

Is the water based white gloss worth bothering with? My doors etc are all sanded down, so I might buy a tin of water based and give it a try.

S'pose that International stuff might be worth trying.
