it seems gone are the days when you could process a return with ebuyer online, i have just requested to return a faulty sat nav, after the request i get told

Email them. I don't phone anyone ever when it's business related unless it's something technical (say giving a MAC for a new ISP). You have maybe been asked to phone their tech team to determine the fault. Who told you to do that (their site?) and did you question it?

If they don't respond to email then make a claim from your credit card company saying they are refusing to speak to you. I assume you used your CC but if you didn't have one you might have to write to Ebuyer. When you do eventually contact them complain about their phone numbers.

Ebuyer want to make money from 0870 and 0871. Simple.

0870 numbers are not money making cows as they use be following the Telephone watchdog new regulations.

    .. That's why they move to 0871 very quickly... Saynoto0871.com anyone?..:o

I have only a couple of days left till 28 return period expires, will they honour the date when the return request was created ?

The "new" regs for 0870 did not come in,( they where supposed to come into force February 2008, but got put on hold re alarm companies!), and probably won't, they are still revenue sharing numbers and the cheapest telco to call them from are BT at 6p per minute daytime, and never included in phone packages, there might be one company? that charges 5ppm, but I can't remember who it is.

See this page for comparison costs.

    e.g. payphone costs; -
    01/02/03 1ppm
    0870 20ppm
    0871 50ppm

All above= Min charge 40p inc 20p connection

I was a little concerned about there advert the other day for a job and the description

    http://static.ebuyer.com/customer/help/index.html?action=c2hvd19jYXJlZXJz

Identify the customers reasons for returning the item, take the opportunity to provide technical support to the customer with the aim to avoid the item been returned back to Ebuyer.

Promote the advantages of products being returned direct to the manufacture staying within the distance selling regulations.

Now maybe I am reading too much into this but they may be trying to prevent returns zealously especially the last part, as they are putting the onus on returning to the manufacturer rather than legally them
  • I've never had any issues with Ebuyer. They are a no frills company who do everything very cheap. I'm sure there are plenty of people who return goods that are not faulty but they are just unable to figure out how to use them, and that probably costs the company a lot of time and money to repackage or to send the goods back to the manufacturer.

When you create an RMA request they ask you for the problem, so if you describe the problem in a way that suggests the product is definitely faulty (e.g. PSU blown, tried different power cables, etc.) then they will just accept the return without question.

it is for laptops and harddrives only, and not actually ebuyer itself, 3rd party support :(

This seem reasonable in theory but in practice it is almost impossible to get through and finalise return request. I've just tried to call the original number, 6-30 and 15 people in the queue, after 5 minutes waiting (at the cost of 20ppm  ) - 13 people, no way I could speak to technical support before 7pm when they close. it is really annoying, as I am sure the item is faulty, it is obvious, I dont need any technical support, I just want to return a faulty item ... ! Cant see any other way than contacting my credit card issuer ...
