Cats tail broken

I think my cat has broken his tail.
Can anything been done. Is it worth taking him to the vet.
He is still eating just gets upset if you touch it.:eek:
Any advice please

The tail could potentially be splinted, amputated or even left to heal depending on the level of damage. It may also not be broken so it is always best to let your vet have a look.

Ouch! poor kitty. He will need to go to the vets to see if it can be fixed. Hope he's feeling better soon.

take your cat to the vet if only for pain medication.
it is bound to be painful especially when jumping up/down on things.

My cat had an abcess on her tail once - she was unable to raise her tail, it was v.sore, she was grumpy and off her food. I thought it was broken, but vet found the abcess and drained it (ie squeezed all the pus out of it, poor kitty nearly screamed the place down, peeps in the waiting room all looked horrified when we emerged from the consultation room). Kitty put the pain behind her right away, and when we got home she scoffed a load of grub, purred like a kitten and let me stroke her then she conked out for about 20 hours. Tail remained intact and gave no further trouble ever.

Please let us know what your vets says.

Well i took my cat to the vets . My poor cat had an abcess on his tail. Ouch. Anyway he was given an injcetion of ani-biotics and an injection to relieve the pain. He came home an ate a full bowl of food. He was feeling much better within an hour.
Today his tail seems fine apart from an area of missing fur.

Glad the cat seems better.

If a cat seems ill, IMO it is best to take them to the vet straight away, as so they can sort put problems quickly

Glad it was "only" an abcess it can easily happen when they are out an about - my boy has had a couple of facial abcesses and if I can find the scab where he's usually been bitten I drain them myself as he's so chilled and get my friend who's a vet to pop down in the evening to check him and give him ABs. Would never attempt draining them on my girl cat if she got any though... I'd end up in A&E!
Guess the boy is just a bit useless at stopping the mice biting him back

emilyt, must be the week for it. Exactly the same thing happened with my cat today, I got home from work and noticed he was holding his tail down and only moving the end bit. He wouldn't let me touch it near his spine, so I looked in google, found all the horror stories about amputated tails and took him to the vet. He had an abcess, vet said another cat had bitten him. Abcess was squeezed (I had to sit down at that stage!), he was given a painkiller and antibiotics. He has to take an antibiotic every morning and night for the next 5 days and I'm very happy to say his tail was back up again half an hour ago and he is now zonked out.

It cost me £44.00!!!! and the vet made another appointment for me to bring him back on friday for a checkup - does anyone know will I have to pay for this or is a checkup after treatment usually included in the first price?

Glad to hear your kitty is OK. It must have really been hurting her, poor thing. My vet told me that if abcesses are found on the tail it can indicate that the cat was running away but still got a set of gnashers in her tail. An abcess toward the front of the body can mean that kitty was face to face with another cross kitty and was probably involved in a brawl!

woofwoofwoof - I'd imagine that the follow up consultation fee will be included in what you've already paid. Unless of course there is a problem and further actual treatment is required then that'd attract a fee.
