A bit off topic, but does anyone know why manufacturers are fitting these dual mass flywheels, when they seem to cause so much trouble and expense?
I believe it limits the vibration from the engine to the cabin. So there's pros and cons.

I would go for something with the VW PD TDI Engines.

    Say no more.

I've had 3 of those in a row.
    Bora, Passatt and now Touran.

    They go for miles !!

I took my Passatt from Essex to Disneyland Paris AND back, on one full tank of Diesel. (about 650miles round trip)

    great Diesel engines.

Not forgetting diesel is now roughly 11% more per litre/gallon and the difference may get greater, so the savings if any will be even less

True it narrows the gap, but an equivalent diesel car will still do 25% to 35% (up to 30% typical) more mpg so diesel has to go up relative to petrol a lot more to cancel out the advantage.

Which car was it that was the first to claim to go 1000 miles on one tank of diesel? I'm sure there was one.

Don't remember a 1000 mile diesel, but Jeremy Clarkson ran an Audi A6 from London to Edinburgh and back, which was over 800 miles IIRC.

Yes, they are there to reduce vibration. Also, they dont just come on diesel cars, my petrol driven car has one.

In todays paper they are forecasting the gap between petrol and diesel to keep on growing over the next three years.

If you are buying new, it now takes at least 45000 miles before you start to make savings....papers words not mine.
