Booked some flights, Spelt my mates surname wrong - will it be a problem?

Title says it all really.

Budget flight to Krakow with Wizzair. However i got my mates surname muddled with another mates (booked 5 in total) and i basically gave them both the same surname.

Anyway - do you think this will be a big problem or are they quite stringent about this stuff.....

I've lookd in the website and theres mentions of a 'name change fee' i.e your changing the passenger completely but no mention of anything else.... :/

I have seen on some programmes on tele that people have been turned away from Ryanair and Easyjet for having their maiden name on the ticket etc.
It is also a security issue from their point of view!

If the name on the ticket (or confirmation) does not match the name on the passport then there is a near-100% chance that the person will not be allowed on board. As it was an error, call Wizzair and explain and they may do the change free or for a lesser charge. If they won't do this, you may just have to stump up whatever their name-change fee is and do it that way.

Like the other post have said, the name on the booking has to match that of the pasport usually and if it does not they probably will refuse travel. I have a hypenated surname and when I booked with Globespan, I rang them as I noticed that the booking name was just in the second part of my surname. They told me that I had to have it changed as I would not be able to fly as the booking name did not match the exact name on the passport. They kindly did not charge me for the name change. I think if you ring up the airline, explain the mistake and say how upset your friend will be with you and how silly you feel making the mistake, they may take pity on you and not charge you any admin fee.

I fell into this problem the other week...

My OH had written down my DD's name as Ellie rather than Eleanor. BMI refused to change it and would only agree to cancel the ticket without a refund as we were over the 24 hour cancellation period. BMI's call center is India where they just basically sang from the same hymn sheets and we got nowhere.

eventually in sheer desperation we went to Manchester airport to the BMI desk where they happily changed it for us for a charge of £70 (£35 each way).

If you have no joy with Wizzair, head to their check in desk, but I imagine it will cost you.

What if you have missed out the middle name - is that a problem?

I have never put my middle name on a booking and I have never had a problem although my passport shows the middle name.

Back in 1993 my name was wrong on the ticket, I phoned the company and they said "when you get to the airport go to our desk before checking in and a new ticket will be available for you" no charge-15 years later this will possibly cost you a small fortune to have it changed-how times have changed.
If my memory serves me I think they give you a short time to phone them after you get your tickets to phone them and tell them of any mistakes on the tickets to make changes for free.

Just booked some flights to Cyprus with BA and we put my first name down in its shortened form - "Tim" rather than "Timothy". We thought the world's favourite airline may be a little flexible on an honest mistake (we phoned straight away) but were told that they are unable to do anything without a £30 admin fee being charged. Despite my efforts to point out that £7.50 per letter could be considered a bit pricey in some circles they are so far refusing to change their viewpoint on it.
