No it's not a Thompson it's a Grundig and it's just over 2 years old, obviously out of warranty as per usual. When I press the remote control, the small remote light on the box doesn't flash as if it's not receiving the signal. it's still dead but I'm giving up for tonight had enough.
Thanks spike for your help!

Thompson Sky+ box?
PSU's blown (Power Supply Unit) Thompsons are notorious for it.You can get it repaired if out of warrenty, list of repairers at top of the Digital TV Board.
I've just spent less that 5 minutes talking to Sky as my 3 month old Sky HD remote has givenup the ghost, now one'll take 5 days to arrive.

Well would you believe it, it is a Thompson, I turned the box upside down and it's on the bottom although it says Grundig on my invoice. Got someone coming to have a look so I will let you know how I got on.:T
• I have just asked sky for help by email. they replied within 3 minutes! this is the email address help@skycustomersupport.com. I have had no signal and followed all the online advice. Within the last hour by email, sky has replied promptly to 4 emails and a technician is booked to fix it. Im very happy with the service and would use it again. Lucky for me I have 2 weeks left on the waranty.:T
• The best most effective and cheapest way to contact sky is to cancel your direct debit. They then phone you to find out whats the matter...Problem sorted.

Try switching it off overnight and then plugging it back in and leaving it for a couple of hours before trying to switch it on. Worked for me a few times with the Thomson Sky+ box. Longer term, though, it is a sign of the PSU starting to fail, and you're going to need to either replace the PSU (costs about £35) or you might as well get a second hand box on eBay, you can get a HD box for around £75.
