Car Recommendations
Thought I would see what kind of suggestions/recommendations people can give.
I am looking for a family car (2 young kids) and would be prepared to spend up to £10k.
Currently thinking of the usual dull options (Vectra, Mondeo, etc.) but these are not really inspiring me.
Would also probably like to get a diesel for the extra economy.
What are peoples thoughts? Would I be just as well spending less money on an older car?

I'm in a similar dilemma. The Mazda 6 looks good and I like the Peugeot 407, but not sure if I'd spend that much of my own money on it (although I've had my present 406 for 5 years with no probs.) In fact, that's why I've kept my 406 for so long - I'm not really inspired by the current 'family' offerings. Mondeo is dull but gets good reveiws so probably a sensible purchase. I like the new Audis and Passats, but too expensive.0

chrisw,
exactly how I feel as well. I have looked at the Mazda6 and quite like it but I think it is begining to look a bit dated already.
Why does sensible so often have to be dull as well?0 -

I know it is not the same model but I d be worried if a manufacturer was so blatantly discardful of people's safety"Don't cry, Don't Raise your Eye

Probably a bit out of your price range and completely left field but dealers often have big discountas available:

Depending on how long you intend to keep the car, assuming 3/4 years, you'd be best to buy as new as possible with as HIGH a mileage you can find.
On the sector you're looking, a Mondeo a year old for £10k & 8.000mls would drive no different to one 2 years old with 80,000 miles on. Just the later would be £3-4k cheaper.
When you come to sell on, the mileage won't be any more off putting, than other cars around
Mazda 6 ARE now coming through the from fleets, now - but proving more expensive than rivals. It's a good car, too.
Diesel - if you do more than 300 miles a week DEFINITE, below this, figures need to be carefully guesstimated.
The Honest John link is well worth a peek. Post in The Backroom - Discussion & EVERYONE there will point you to a Mondeo TDci - the second choice to Mazda 6.
Buy one with as higher spec you can find too!!
