Police Penalty Notice for being incorrectly parked - Advice Please :-(

Hey everyone!!

I got a funny one for you guys.

On Friday night at around 8pm I parked my Classic Mini (normally) on my local high street in a free parking space. When I came to collect my car on Saturday morning at around 9:45am it had a parking ticket on it. I knew 100% there were no parking restrictions in the area. The ticket was from the MET claiming my car was 'Incorrectly parked in a free parking place'.

Some bystanders came up to me and said they thought my car was going to get towed. I said what do you mean? They said the police had just been round with a tow/pickup truck and turned my car back to being parallel to the kerb as my back wheels were in the middle of the road! I.e. my car was facing the kerb and sticking out of the parking bay causing an obstruction to traffic!

The only explanation I can think of is that some drunken yobs beerchug.gif fancied a laugh and turned my car round in the night on the way back from the pub! Now I have to foot the £40 fine!! angry-smiley-030.gif

Any suggestions would be gratefully received!

are there any pubs nearby with cctv? they may help you to prove what happened.
but i would probably just see the funny side and pay the fine.

next time you park there put a few bags of cement in the boot! :rotfl:

    That is quite funny actually.

Unfortunately for you, unless you can prove someone else turned the car, you probably will end up havign to pay the fine. All I can suggest is trying to find out if there is any local CCTV footage which might give a better idea of what happened.

Could you ask to speak to the officer who issued the ticket to find out what its about? Like you said some drunks could have moved it "for a laugh"..

I've thought about that one, my other option is to get my Mini gold plated :p but i can't afford the extra fuel it'll cost driving it around

Not sure there is any CCTV covering it. It was parked outside a nursing home so they'd have staff coming and going at all hours of the night and might be able to testify that it was parked normally at the start of the evening

Maybe it was the nursing home staff that moved it. :rotfl:

I would count myself lucky they only decided to move it across.

Once I was driving early morning down a street near a pub and its seemed the drunks, for a laugh, decided to go down the street putting cars on their sides and one was even on its roof.

There were 5-6 cars like this. Honestly never seen anything like it.

First I was gobsmacked, then I thought it was quite funny but finally I felt sorry for the owners who would walk out to their cherished cars to see them most likely written off due to the damage caused.
  • Deny the offence and request a copy of the photograph taken by the parking attendant.

I'd deny it all the way. Few people would be daft enough to call you a liar over something so silly and obvious. Why on earth would someone park at a right angle to the kerb?

    Er, because they were drunk?

I don't think that a photo of the car parked badly helps the OP's case at all, to be honest.

Whilst it's unlikely anyone would park like that, it's equally surprising that anyone would be stupid enough to turn it sideways after it had been parked.
  • You must live in a quiet little world if you think that cars being moved for fun is a rarity.
