On your way up the motorway call in at services or little chef - you will find information leaflets with money off vouchers for attractions including chester zoo.

Go for food at The Duke of Portland. They have an early evening menu - 2 courses £10. Very good, local, award-winning pub owned by the Belle Epoque in Knutsford (posh and pricey).

There's a Wetherspoon's in Wilmslow. I dunno why you'd choose to eat microwave meals on holiday though! ;)

You could go see the Concorde on display at Manchester Airport and watch planes taking off.

I would say the Peak District, but it's not flat! Might be worth driving around though. Or visit the flatter valleys like Edale.

There's lots of museums, galleries, cafes, etc in Manchester and Liverpool which are very easy to get to from Knutsford.

Dunham Massey - national trust place.

Thanks again I am really looking forward to trip now with all these suggestions.
I have got a National trust card so will certainly try all places suggested.
When I come back I will follow thread up with my comments.
I know weatherspoons is not a la carte but we like to have lots of cheapie breaks in the year rather than one good holiday.I have my 5 veg a day while at home so rubbish now and then to save money is ok.
Will certainly try £10 for 2 courses one evening though.

I'd definitely go for all the NT places - Dunham Park is lovely, Tatton and Styal Mill all well worth a visit.

Alderley edge is also NT and very close and has good paths and a lovely coffee shop. Free to park for NT members

    Enjoy BD x

    Hi
I am sure you will love being in Cheshire, there is so much to do.

this is the website of the local tourism sites. they list attractions in the area and what the events are for when you are around.

As I work at a nearby museum as a volunteer I will of course highly recommend the Anson Engine Museum in Poynton http://www.enginemuseum.org/ The museum has won several awards and currently has The Diesel Story Exhibition and a local history exhibition on the Old Shops Of Poynton.

Have a great time whatever you do.:j

Thankyou all for making our break special. We visited most of the places suggested and my favourite was Tatton Park, really lovely. We shopped in Warrington and looked at shops in Alderney edge including Barnado's. All I can say is I am glad there are no fat footballers wives as even secondhand the items were really expensive £40 upwards for clothes, obviously designer labels but lovely stuff.

I am delighted you had a good time. Tatton is fabulous so I am delighted you enjoyed it too.

Do come back and enjoy the rest of Cheshire the next time you get the chance to be in the area.
    :-)
