Deals on orange PAYG handset for teenager
Hi, it's my first post so apologies for any mistakes.
I am looking for a handset for my 13 year old, which meets my criteria of cheap (up to £75), durable & not too attractive to theft, and his criteria of reasonably cool, good camera & bluetooth to enable transfer of photos etc. It will be mainly used to text, take photos & the odd call. He likes Sony Ericsson (& his sister has the K550i which has been pretty sturdy), but does not really need the mp3 facility.
Any advice, or particular deals anyone has seen?
[We are really happy with orange PAYG, he's on a tariff which gives him 300 texts for a £10/month top up, & orange customer service have been excellent whenever we've had a problem. I know there might be cheaper contract deals out there if I wanted to venture into the cashback area, but just now I like the control of PAYG.]
Thanks.

Welcome to MSE. I hope you find the site really useful- we're all very friendly.
There is a special offer on the Orange Berlin at the moment - reduced by £20 to £29.99 plus £10 top up. Fantastic deal- It is a slider phone in black, with bluetooth, video messaging, 2 megapixel camera, and it has no MP3- only FM radio which is perhaps why it is cheaper than others. My son thought it was cool so we bought one for him today.

Thanks halkerstone.
We went & looked at this, but he preferred the Sony Ericsson K800i, which has a pretty high quality camera (3.2mp cybershot), mp3, bluetooth etc. Best deal on orange was £59.99 through dial a phone (+ £10 top up) - and I went through TopCashBack, so might even get £5 back! Seems like a very high spec phone for the price, also available on T mobile.0 -
Sounds like you got a very good deal. My second son has had a Sony Ericsson K750i for some time now and it sounds similar and he's been very happy with it.
Hope you get the £5 back on cashback too! Thanks to all who post comps!0 -
@ meanmum.
When you get the phone, you will get a new Orange Sim Card, and the £10 will be added to that sim usually within 14 working days of receipt.
This sim will have a different telephone number when registered. It will likely have a different (though similar) tariff.
If your son wants to keep his existing mobile number, then you will need to do the following to keep the £10 top-up (which will be on the new sim).
Phone Customer services, and ensure both PAYG sims are registered and have your details assigned to them. Request a credit transfer from the sim with the newly aquired credit. This should transfer the £10 across.
If your son is ok with a new number, then fair enough

pS) K800i is a nice phone, should enjoy it, and it is quite solid.
If any faults develop with the handset, remember you will need to go back to point of purchase or manufacturer. Orange will help to a certain degree if there's probs, but if there's a fault which requires repair, then it'll be point of purchase/manufacturer.Information provided is offered as a guide, and should not be deemed to be 100% accurate/correct.
