Asda & Tesco cut petrol prices

I bet all those who queued up at the garage's to panic-buy fuel on Wednesday will be upset, however those of us that waited can now reep the rewards as Tesco and Asda have slashed the price of UL to c.89.9p

Asda said it would cut the cost of petrol to a maximum of 89.9p a litre at its 158 petrol stations and diesel to 92.9p a litre. Meanwhile, Tesco said it was cutting prices from 0600 BST on Friday at all its 380 petrol stations by up to 4p a litre.

The rest of the supermarkets are sure to follow :j

(then no doubt it will go up again - supply & demand)

  • Whilst Asda have a nationwide pricing policy, Tesco operate a local one. My local Tesco have not cut even 0.1p off their price per litre as at 07.30 this morning. And I do not expect them too unless local garages reduce their price which is unlikely.

Tesco's only normally respond to local competition and in many places there is none so they keep their prices at a high level. Locally to me (about a 6 mile radius) Tesco filling stations are charging between 92.9 and 95.9p per litre!!! Where there is competition close by, especially the other supermarket chains, they will lower prices. In my opinion it is very unlikely that the majority of Tesco stores will cut the full 4p per litre and in many cases do not expect to see very much taken off at all. Tesco are using this as publicity and unfortunately the media get sucked in as they are not bright enough to work out Tesco's tactics.

So it was all a big scam, hike prices - sell loads of fuel - do they do refunds if you take it back?

The drawback with that site (apart from all the affliate links) is that it's very slow to update for example my town was last last updated on the 13th September. What we need is the AA's petrol busters website back where they check the prices independently.

Our local Tesco has been 4p dearer than the Esso station a couple of miles away for about 3 weeks now, haven't seen what Tesco price is today though yet
  • ESSO (who supply Tesco with petrol) has just joined the Petrol Wars by cutting 4p off a litre of U/L :j
  • As I suggested above, Tesco are just playing the media for mugs with their 4p per litre reduction. Just driven past my local Tesco and they have reduced unleaded by 1p per litre from 94.9p to 93.9 p.

Well done Tesco, lets make another few £billion profit shall we?
  • Also just been to 2 of my local tesco stations and yep, only 1p price cut to 93.9p -- explains there rise in profits announced yesterday !! Anyone know any Tesco selling at 89.9p ???
    Triple S
  • My local Tesco was 89.9p for unleaded and 92.9p for diesel at the weekend. Haven't been back to look again since then.
