Please help me rid my life of AOHell pop-ups. I've had a look on the forum, but I'm not a techie, so have just got confused.
I use lycos.com e-mail. Recently, I have been plagued by pop-ups advertising AOHell when I use the mail service. I get them when I log-in, log-out, send or view e-mails - i.e. all the bl**dy time.
This is the url on the pop-up:
http://www.aol.co.uk/products/campaigns/getmore/default.htm
I use AM Browser (used to be called Crazy Browser), which blocks most pop-ups, but not this one. It's a tabbed browser, which I am told is a "front end" for internet explorer. Sometimes the pop-up appears as a new tab on the browser, and sometimes in a new window entirely.
It is making my mail service virtually unusable. I don't want to change my e-mail provider/address. Lycos say the pop-up is limited to once per session, and they don't know why I keep getting it. My a**e!
It's getting to the point where I am going to punch something. This will require replacement of expensive kit. I hope I have provided enough information. I have no problems with any other pop-ups. Please can one of you geniuses recommend a fix?
I will need fairly simple instructions
Cheers!

If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.

Cheers Mr Skint, I was hoping you'd come to my rescue. I'll try the Google toolbar. I haven't got service pack 2. I had to uninstall it as it crippled my internet speed and stopped my scanner working!

Something like that! Well, the Google toolbar didn't work. It only added the toolbar to Internet Explorer, not the AM Browser that I use. When I'm using AM Browser I still get the pop-ups.
Even if I use Internet Explorer instead (I prefer AM browser because I tend to have a lot of windows open), they STILL get through!
I am spitting chips here. I'd like to throttle any representative of AOHell I could get my hands on.
Any more ideas?

weeeeeelllll, so you like tabbed browsing and you want to get rid of pop ups.....
would you consider using firefox as your main browser? (IE can, and should, stay for use on the sites where people haven't coded them properly) It's just that firefox offers the tabbed browsing feature, it will automatically deal with a lot of popups (seems to be more effective for me than IE at that) and the other important factor is that you can very easily add an option to firefox that will allow you to target specific things (popups, images, text areas on pages etc) and prevent them from appearing.
It may sound a bit drastic and a bit daunting but firefox could well resolve your problem here and there are plenty of folks on here using it so support is only a post away if you need it

:T That seemed surprisingly easy. I am now running Firefox, by Godzilla's mate, or sumfink. I am now free of AOHell's nasty invasive cr*p.smcicr wrote:but firefox could well resolve your problem here and there are plenty of folks on here using it so support is only a post away if you need it
I can use my lousy e-mail provider again

Now then, any tips on how I can bug AOHell as much as they've bugged me?

I did e-mail a complaint to them, and let them know that their advertising was having a negative effect, as not only would I never use AOHell, I would actively discourage anyone from doing so.
You listening Elfmay?

Take not of all the POP UPs and then print them off and send them in the post
to where ever there offices are, mind you the postage could be quite steep.
