First MOT and car tax

Course you can't.
You are thinking of when you get a test carried out within a month of the existing one expiring. In that case the MOT will expire 12 months after the expiry date of the one it replaces.
Which is not the subject of this thread.
It will date on from the day it was first registered.Genie

2 reasons, firstly, on some occasions tax has been refused when MOT is due close to tax renewal time.
Secondly, should there be any warranty issues - best to get an MOT and service done in advance before the warranty runs out - it will then give you plenty of time to get any necessary work done - hopefully none, but better to be safe than sorry.
The MOT will be dated on, as long as the test is no more than four weeks in advance.
Thank you Jeannieblue, that sounds like very good advice. For some reason it hadn't even occurred to me to get the MOT done before the warranty runs out - seems so obvious now!!
Thanks again!0 -
You're welcome Snuggles!
We've spotted a few issues with some cars when they are about to turn 3 years old and the customers have had the chance to go to the dealer and sort it out. Mind you, mostly when they were being serviced to be honest - is the service due?Genie

Hi jeannieblue. Yes the service is due, but I had this idea that as the warranty is about to run out (so I won't need to stick religiously to the service schedule) I would leave the service for a few months, so I wasn't paying out for an MOT and a service at the same time. But thanks to you, I've realised that's a pretty daft idea and I should get the service done before the warranty runs out!!0
