First MOT and car tax
My car tax runs out at the end of June, and my car is also due it's first MOT on 20th July (3 years after the date of first registration).
I seem to remember that when you have an MOT, you have to present the MOT certificate when you tax your car.
My question is, as my tax is due a few weeks before the MOT is required, will I be able to tax my car at the end of June without an MOT cert, or will I have to get the MOT done earlier than is actually required just so I can tax the car?
Thanks,
Snuggles

You can get the MOT done up to a month earlier and you'll get an MOT for 13 months. You can use the old MOT cert to tax the car assuming it is still in date.0

You will be able to tax your car fine at the end of June without an MOT certificate. The car does not require an MOT certificate on the day the tax is due.Thrifty Till 50 Then Spend Till the End
You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time but you can never please all of the people all of the time0 -
Just to clarify - the car requires it's first MOT in July, so my post still stands.Thrifty Till 50 Then Spend Till the End

To clarify, the car is not due for its first MOT until mid-July so my post still stands. The info Anewman has provided is incorrect, he/she has assumed that the car needed a MOT certificate for last year too.Thrifty Till 50 Then Spend Till the End

I'd get the MOT done before the tax is due.
2 reasons, firstly, on some occasions tax has been refused when MOT is due close to tax renewal time.
Secondly, should there be any warranty issues - best to get an MOT and service done in advance before the warranty runs out - it will then give you plenty of time to get any necessary work done - hopefully none, but better to be safe than sorry.
The MOT will be dated on, as long as the test is no more than four weeks in advance.Genie

No.
The MOT will be dated for the day it is carried out. (Unless you are buying it off Mr A Daley) (Note thread title)0 -
Course you can't.
You are thinking of when you get a test carried out within a month of the existing one expiring. In that case the MOT will expire 12 months after the expiry date of the one it replaces.
Which is not the subject of this thread.0
