Hello
I have heard good reports about I-rivers over all other large storage MP3 players
Any ony use these?
They are expensive but my issue with smaller ones is that I would have to remove music at some point and don't want to do that.Excuse the spelling...life is too short to get evey word right!!0 -
@Splashie - not used an iriver but i have had an ipod and currently use a creative zen extra (30GB). the ipod was pretty much a disaster from start to finish. 1st or 2nd gen and would only work occasionally with the firewire card i'd bought, then almost never after firmware updates - sold it to someone with a mac in the end.
the creative has been the opposite, paid around £160 for it which i consider value for money if not a bargain. usb2 so the transfers are quick, the software bundled with it is nicely done and works well - it's also pretty simple to use. As is mentioned above the ipod has no battery option other than send the whole unit away. the zen has swappable batteries and battery life has been good. i can't say i noticed any massive drop in sound quality between the ipod and the zen either. so i'd say creative are definitely also worth a look.
i don't think anyone has yet beaten apple on design or UI but sometimes it has to be function over form - especially at ipod prices

i wouldn't touch an i-pod. if the battery goes its £80 for a replacement- eek!
if my logik mp3 battery goes its more like 80p for a new aaa size!!!!If at first you do succeed, try not to look astonished.

I had an iPod (two in fact 3rd Gen and a Photo) but sold them. For playing music and ergonomics (human interaction) they are probably the best players around, although slightly expensive. The touch wheel, simple yet elegant looks, and small size make them very desirable.
I did sell mine though, a) as the battery life isn't very good, and b) I wanted a non hard drive based player that was smaller. In my opinion static based players are the way forward, smaller, lighter, less likely to break, use less battery power etc... Note - you can replace an iPod battery yourself, with a bit of patience and time for around £10. There are plenty of guides on the web.
I've currently got a Shuffle (basically I got a good deal so couldn't refuse for the price) but at the moment my recommendation would be the iPod Nano (http://www.apple.com/ipodnano/). It does cost £140 though, although is ahead of anything Apple's competitors have yet released.
If budget is important, look at the Creative Muvo range, like the Creative Muvo TX, or Creative Muvo V200. They did very well in reviews and was what I was considering (before getting a good deal on the Shuffle). They're small, robust, have good battery life, and cost around £60 for 512mb."Boonowa tweepi, ha, ha."0 -
An iPod Nano will make your daughter very happy. Good looking, flash-based storage, small and compact, available in 2GB or 4GB, + colour screen. I wouldn't have suggested any of the other iPods.0

I've bought three mp3's lately for various grandchildren... both 128 and 256 MB.
Got them all on Ebay... two from a bloke in england and one from Hong Kong. In all cases they cost me less than £20 and they all do the business (albeit in a simple sort of way). They are the 'hang around your neck' type and the kids love them. One of the kids has now moved onto a 20gb Ipod but still uses the little one. The Hong Kong one was from this bloke (128mb) I paid £1.99 + postage. Hope this helps
